"Cream of wheat"?! :chin: Off to Google....
Okay so, after further research: Grits appear to be similar to, but not quite the same as, polenta. Cream of wheat seems to be what I call semolina--brings back bad memories of nasty school meals where it was served with a dollop of something masquerading as strawberry jam! Swedes are called rutabagas over here, broad beans are limas, and aubergines are eggplants. And when I discovered that yams were sweet potatoes and sweet potatoes were yams, it just about did my head in! Sun 07/08: Breakfast: 5½ oz banana & 2 oz blueberry shake (crushed ice, ¼ cup 0% milk, ½ cup 2% plain yogurt, vanilla extract). Lunch: 6 thin slices ham on 124 g whole-wheat bagel, 1 tblsp. mustard, 1 tblsp. Phili Light, naked coleslaw, tomato. Dinner: ¼ smoked salmon quiche, 1 cup veggies (lima beans, peas, & sweetcorn), 1 tblsp. sliced almonds. Snacks: ½ oz almonds, ½ oz walnuts, 1 oz raisins. Drinks: 750 ml coffee, 2½ litres water, 500 ml diet root beer. Total kcals: 1472 (not incl. free veggies). Exercise: 2 miles WATP. |
Sunday:
Breakfast/Lunch: Homemade French Toast (2 slices), low sugar syrup, regular syrup, hash browns, bacon, 10 oz 1% milk Snack: Carrot Sticks Dinner: Mushroom casserole (crimini, portobellos, button mushrooms; whole milk, chicken broth, egg noodles, swiss cheese) Snacks: sunflower seeds, 2/3 of a candy bar that my best friend brought me from Australia! Cool! :) Drinks: (milk above), 1/4 diet cola, water kcal: 1734 (not including Australian candy bar because I didn't understand how they broke it down for calories...so that probably puts me more in the 1900 range) |

Laura! How can you not like lima beans!? :p I love them, especially the baby ones sautéed in 1 tsp. groundnut oil with lots of garlic and black pepper. :T The only vegetable I'm not keen on is over-cooked okra (or umm... snot, as I call it! :barf: ). You're welcome to your Cream of Wheat though. I love sweet potatoes (or even yams? :?: ) in a veggie tagine. I cook them up with potato, carrots, and whatever other veggies I have to hand, and add dried apricots, cumin, honey, paprika, and tomatoes. Lovely! I haven't had them fried though, which is probably just as well given my addiction to fat. :o I might get around to trying them one day....

I have a lovely recipe for Baked Sweet Potato Fries as I avoid the fried foods. I have never hear of a 'veggie tangine' before but it sounds very nice and a easy way to get in loads of veggies too! My food for today is posted in the new thread, BTW. LOL |
Psst, the OTHER Laura doesn't like Lima beans either. :barf:
