Pedometer Questions...

  • I just got a pedometer yesterday... and I have a few questions about them..
-Today I did WATPs 1mile.. and It said I only went .22 miles (447 steps) is it not working right or will it not pick up that much when your walking in place and doing other movements?
-Also that means..1 mile equals about 2200 steps??? Is that about right???
    - Do you think it would pick up an ellipical machine???
    - Should I take it off when I do other exercises, like leg lifts and crunches?
  • Hello Starangel,
on my pedometer I can adjust the length of a stride. This has an effect on how quickly it says I've done a mile.
  • Mine averages under a mile for the one mile watp tape and under 2 miles for the 2 mile watp tape.

It makes a difference in mine where I wear it. If I don't place it "above the knee" on my waist, then my steps are lower.

  • Make sure to set it to your stride length as the instructions should describe. If you wear it parallel to the ground, it will give the most accurate results as it senses hip flexion. I can walk 1950 steps to equal a mile...but I am quite tall and have a long stride.

The WATP tape distance needs to be taken with a grain of salt as I have found out.
