Wow what a welcome surprise. I know most here dread having to weigh on the doc's scale because it is always heavier than your home scales. Scales vary so much unless you get a decent quality one. A lot of us here use a tanita scale of some sort or some other digital scale.
i think it's a great idea to get weighed at your doc's office. The key to weighing is to make sure you try and do it at the same time of day each time, wearing the same type of clothes (or none at all). Your weight can fluctuate by a few pounds each day which means if you weighed at 7 p.m. after dinner at 270 and then a couple of weeks later in the morning before eating, it's possible your weight could be off by 10 pounds like that. |
I have heard that scales are all different. Is yours at home a digital? A friend of mine doesnt trust those, she says they are too inaccurate. I'm not too sure. I would imagine that a Dr.'s office scale would be the best in accuracy. My grandmother has one at her business, she bought from a TOPS club that disbanned back in the 70's. Anyhow, it pretty much compares to the Dr.s scale. That's great that you dont weigh as much as you though you did! How exciting! I wish I had that luck!!!!! :sunny:

Welcome from another newbie!

Welcome Tina, and congrat's on the pleasant surprise!
And Rebelgirl, I'm not sure if I've greeted you yet -- but it's great to have you here as well! Lots of new folks - that's great! You couldn't have come to a nicer and more supportive place. Make it home and you'll find it really helpful in keeping you focused. :) |
I just wanted to welcome the newbies, too!
One quick word on depression, because I have suffered from it much of my life. I can honestly say that the combination of exercise/losing weight has made me feel like a new person in that regard. And like Tammy said, I think there's a vicious circle that happens when you're depressed -- you feel bad, so you don't feel like doing anything, which in turn makes you feel worse. I would urge you to try some sort of exercise; I bet it will make you feel better. Start slow, of course... my first day, I could do only about 10-15 minutes on the bike, and now I've worked my way up to an hour! I know you can do it. Baby steps, like everybody has said. Welcome, welcome, welcome! |
Hey Tina I think the Dr weigh in is a GREAT idea! My mom did that when we started our weightloss journey and it really kept her focused because she loved the praise she got from the staff when she lost. She doesn't go anymore right now but it was great for her!
