life just got worse even by my standards

well as you all know my life has been in free fall for the last year or so and well it just hit rock bottom and started digging on monday morning my old man had a stroke at only 54 years old. i was dragged out of bed at 3.30am to pick him off the floor. he got to hospital at 4.40am and we waited for a bed in casualty (ER) for get this 14 hours yea 14 hours. they since have run every test they can on him and they found no evidence of anything no bleeding in the brain no tumours no blood pressure or heart problems no pulmonary probs. he's not diabetic he doesn't smoke and drinks once in a blue moon. they said physically there is no reason for it to have happend the only thing they can put it down to is that bloody atkins diet. i know there is no set evidence of a link between the two but well they say there is nothing wrong with him and no reason for a stroke and everywhere you look it says atkins increases stroke possibility. so take heed i know some of your are around the 50ish mark give or take 10 years. and he was only on it for 9months.

i'm so sorry to read about your dad, si. how is he doing?

mthrgoos68 03-17-2004 11:09 AM

Big hugs for you Si. How is your dad today? Did they send him home or keep him there? How are you doing today?

Jillegal 03-17-2004 11:31 AM

Hope your dad's doing better Si and doesn't suffer any long-term ill effects. Although it must have been a terribly frightening experience, all the test results look good and it sounds like he should have a full and complete recovery. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise, a warning so to speak, and he can make some changes to prevent anything major.

As for the possible Atkins connection, I don't follow the plan myself but I know others who have had great success with it, however, they don't rely heavily on the bacon and fried eggs routine and opt for the leaner, broiled meats and leafy veggies (oh crikey, I don't want to sound like I'm preaching here). I have to admit it used to amuse me how your dad would constantly taunt you with sausage, egg and bacon fry-ups and I know when you decided to do a short-term Atkins stint that's what your mouth was watering for. :)

Again, I hope he's on the mend and back home soon (if not already). And hey, you can only go up from rock bottom darlin' ;)

Si: Hope your father is back on the mend! Please give him and the rest of your family our best. As for the "we can't find anything wrong with him" bologna, my husband had a major heart attack at 54 last October, no diabetes, no high blood pressure nothing, just boom woke up with pain in the chest. He is doing fine now, thank God, but though it MAY have been the diet with regards to you dad, and though they can't find anything wrong with him, something triggered it they aren't seeing. Good luck to you both and I hope he recovers fully really quick. Our prayers are with you!

Oh, no, what horrible news! I hope he's doing better now, and doesn't suffer any long-term problems.

My father had a brain anyerism at the ripe ol' age of 47. He will never be the same. Lots of short term memory loss. But he did "recover." And ended marrying his 27 year old girlfriend. :) It came as quite a shock to us all.

I'm sorry, Si. Well.... like they said, from the bottom, you can only go up!

What an outrageous emergency room story. Where are peoples' priorities? Geeze.

Prayers from Wisconsin.
