Putting myself first

  • I hit the gym for my weights 3x a week. Tues / Thurs / Sat. My girlfriend comes to the gym @ 6:00 after I have worked out and both of our boys are in swimming. We have been trying desperately to get together to celebrate her oldest boys birthday. This weekend is booked. She suggested Tuesday before swimming. This is my very best friend in the whole world. I told her that I hated to say no, but I didn't want to miss a workout. I offered her next weekend and if that didn't work, Next week, I would switch my Tuesday workout to Monday and we could then do it on Tuesday.

Even though I know I am being a pain in the , I stuck up for me. I need to lift 3x a week, whenever possible. Sure there will be weeks that I can't for one reason or another, but I need to make every effort to stick to my plan.

    I am proud of me!!
  • and so am i!!!!!!! you're onto one of my favorite lecture topics!! and look what you're accomplishing!!!

    great job..
  • Terrific Job Sandi!!!! I am proud of you too! Way to move your body, and making positive steps to getting fit and feeling healthy!! You GO!
  • I am proud of you too, whatever loving choices we can make for ourselves is a beautiful thing!

    Miss Chris
  • Way to go!! Its not easy to do and i am facing the problem that i want to meet a friend at the gym and then my mom wants me to go with her and the hubby does too. So I have 3 people who want me to do things with them. You just cant satisfy everyone!
  • Congrats Sandi! This would be my biggest problem -caving in what I know is right because I want to please other people.

    You rock!
  • *applause from Wisconsin*
  • Sandi .. it's so easy to say "okay" to a friend. Good for you! I'm proud of you!
  • *more applause from Wisconsin*
  • I recently heard of an old Chinese saying:

    After me, you first!

because if you don't take care of yourself, you are no good to others.... I agree with it, and was glad to stop thinking of myself as selfish when I put myself first at times.

    Jana
  • Good for you Sandi!! Too many women (me included) find it difficult to say "NO"!
  • Jana...I love that quote...I hope you don't mind I added it to my signature lines? Also, I am a beagle lover too!!! My first dog was a beagle and shepard mix....beagle face...shepard body, beagle colorings and beagle tail...very cute!!!!
  • Gina - I take it as a compliment that you are using the quote! Beagle and shepherd mix would be cute. We have two beagles. One is old and can't see well. The other is about 4 and is so spoiled that I have literally made the bed around her. But, if you're gonna have pets, they should be pampered, right??

Question - does this site usually have a current general chit chat threadl? I see one for last week...

    Thanks!
    Jana
  • Jana, yes the site does have a little chit chat thread whenever one of us remembers to start one. Sandi, good for you for putting yourself first. I have such a hard time with that and is something that I need to get better at. All a part of caring about oneself...I am going to think how I will manage that this week.
  • Absolutely brilliant Sandi! More women need to think of their own mental and physical health before some other issues. We need to stop being Wendy to everyone's Peter Pan.
