When Nice People Do Bad Things

So, I've had a very stressful week at work. It was registration week for the supplementary high school I work for and my database is down (dead, actually) and I've had to do everything by hand. Parents are starting to freak out because their kid can't get into the classes they want and my principal is freaking out because registration is down 25%. So, yesterday, I'm at the copier and I'm frustrated and frazzled and I say, "All I really want is a cookie."

Cookies are my downfall. I love them.

Anyway, this morning, on my desk, a coworker bought me a package of Mint Oreo cookies.

My second downfall... mint.

So, it's an incredibly sweet and thoughful gesture. I'm very touched but OMG there is a package of Oreos on my desk!!!!

What do you do when nice people do bad things?

How sweet!! I realize cookies are the last thing you need but what a nice co-worker!!

I would say you could do one of two things:

1. Put the cookies in a common area and tell everyone someone was nice enough to give them to you to lift your spirits and you'd like to share with all - no one will know that you didn't eat any.

2. Make a big show of saying how much you'll enjoy those tonight with a glass of milk and some TV (or whatever) and take them home. On the way, stop and donate them to a food pantry or corner coffee store or something.

Good Luck!!

Ouch!! I feel for you, especially since Oreos are one of those things that I absolutely can't resist. I think Kim had two great ideas!!

She sounds like a really nice person but i feel for you! Its so hard when someone does something nice and you dont know how to stay OP without offending them. Its like someone that is an alcoholic say man i need a drink and someone bringing them a 12 pack! Very hard to turn away from. Very good ideas for handling the situation; I would probably shared them with everyone and maybe had one or two and just cut calories somewhere else if i thought i had that much control....

you say.. "thank you very much.. how sweet!" - then donate them to a food bank. The co-worker was doing something she/he believed would make you feel better. She did not do something bad - it is what you do with the cookies makes it a good or bad thing.

Miss Chris... you appear to be very popular!

What did you do?

Jessica... I Agree w/ Kim.

Share the cookies. Share them gooooooood.

Sandi 10-17-2003 08:49 AM

Here, send them to me and I will take care of them for you!! ;) :hun:

That was so thoughtful. I like the idea of putting them in a common place and letting everyone share in them. Maybe on the way out the door, grab one, make sure your co-worker sees you having it - That way you also got to enjoy your treat - but you'll be out the door and not tempted to eat anymore.

BTW - Miss Chris - Um, what did you do to deserve Pie, brownies and cookies?? :o
