Angry Im going to need all the help I can get

Hi,
I posted in a couple of other threads but I figured I would post here, because I have over 100 pounds to lose.

I have struggled all my life with my weight and it has ruined my life so to speak. I have finally come to realize after 20 years that I have an eating disorder of some sort, but I dont know what. Today I took a big step for me, my work pays for 8 sessions with counslors, physcologists etc so I can get help. I called and made an appointment with an eating disorder specialist.

My main problem is that I think about food constantly, I binge eat all the time and Im starting to purge on occaison. Thats when I decided it was time to take action.

But about my self, Im 36 yrs old, weigh 285 and hope to get to 165 in this lifetime. I cant make myself exercise even though I have a membership to the best club in Michigan. I constantly am making exuses for myself why I cant stick to a healthy eating plan. I recently joined TOPS and havent been doing well at that either. I need alot of help and I need everyone heres help if you will help me. People at work cant relate to me. There is nothing that makes me more mad than a 120 pound woman complaining that she is too fat. Lately I have gotten snippy because it is very irritating. So when she says " Can I get any fatter? I look like a fat pig." I just tell her Yes you can get fatter and what am I a sickning discussting slug at 285? She usually says no and walks away. maybe Im over reacting but if you havent walked in an overweight persons body, then you have no idea what one goes through on a daily basis.

Sorry for venting,
Thanks,
Terri

How do you guys get your weights at the bottom of the post? Just curious. And also, how do you keep a journal. I have noticed on some of the user id's

well, darlin. first things first. you've lost 30 pounds, which is just about 10% of your body weight!!! congratulations!!!

tops is a good group, i've heard, and i've known quite a few folks who have done well with OA, especially if they've had addictive traits. but you'll have to find what works best for you/

as for those thin people who don't understand... my best advice is to simply not get into these discussions. they're either struggling just as much as we are [on a different plane of course]or they have absolutely no sense of their own bodies [just like us!!!!]. there's no point. just try to ackowledge they they obviously have their own issues and problems and you can't begin to do anything about them.

you can only take care of yourself. and you are worth it.

Hi Healthysoon!

Boy have you found the best place for support! You are doing so well right now! way to go!
I have been struggling for a long long time myself. I am only 5feet tall... so I feel like a round ball sometimes.

Stick around - you will not find better support out there then right here!

Go up to the top of the screen, there is a button that says "User CP", that is how you get the weight under your name & your avatar & your profile.

Your journal, well...the ones under our names are the old ones. The link to the new ones is at the top of the page. I have put my new journal link in my signature for convenience.

Also, welcome to the board! There is always someone here to cheer you on & we all know what the others are going through.

Terri,

Welcome!! It's so great to have you join us and you will find lots of support here.

You and I are the same age and face a lot of similiar hurdles. I know it's so very hard to start exercising and there are so many reasons not to. At first you just have to force yourself to go. Set aside that time and don't let anything interfere with it. Treat it as you would a dr. appt. and make sure you make it there. As you start losing and feeling stronger, that will motivate you to want to go. Find something you like doing, and it will be easier too. Walking, swimming, biking, anything at all.

I know you can do this, and we'll all help you. Post often and let us get to know you better.

Welcome!! We're glad you found us! THis is a great bunch of people, and quite active and supportive. Post early and often so you get to know us (and vice versa).

As to exercise, that was always my problem too. I couldn't get myself motivated to "do" it. But then I started incorporating small boosts of activity in my life. I psyched myself out by not calling it "exercise" --- to me that brought back painful memories of being humiliated in gym class as a child.

But taking the stairs instead of the escalator at the MEtro or the mall? I can do that. Parking farther away and walking a few more minutes to get to the store? I can do that. Throwing the baby into a stroller and ambling around the neighborhood on a nice evening? I can do that. Working more often in my garden? I can do that (and the plants love it. the weeds wonder what happened to their cushy retreat).

After a while I realized that I could walk a good half hour without thinking much about it. So I tried a beginner's aerobics tape. That's all she wrote. I just joined a gym, and I exercise (I'm not afraid of the word anymore) 6 days a week.

Now, that doesn't mean I go to the gym and do an hour of aerobics every day!! To me, exercise can be 40 minutes of walking during my breaks at work (10 -15 minutes at a time), an hour of gardening, 45 minutes of weight lifting, or an aerobic tape or class at the gym. Everything counts.

Start out small, and make easy goals. That way you build your confidence and can start truly feeling like you can do this.

That's what has really helped me overcome my exercise-phobia. Hope some of it helps you.
