Scale issues

Ive had problems with digital scales in the past, but I thought I had a reliable one finally. I've been stuck on a plateau for about a week--the exact same weight 241.8 and it occurred to me to try to check the batteries. I dont have any new ones. I took them out and put them back in. I am getting a consistent reading of 254 now. If I pick something up and weigh myself it will increase correctly. I am so upset. I thought I had lost close to 20 pounds and it might be less than 10. I have been following medifast pretty accurately for 6 weeks. The first time I did medifast, I lost 12 pounds in a week.

This is a shattering blow. Any advice? What scales do you use?

I use the aria by fit bit. It is a bit pricey but very accurate and weight go to my fit bit data base. I also weigh my self at my gym once a month to make sure everything is in check.
Don't let it get you down. We have two other digital scales in the house one measures me almost 20lbs less and one is fairly accurate to the aria. Dh likes the one of course that measures 20lbs less but I am more realistic.

I don't know if this will discourage or encourage you but ... if your scale isn't working now, it probably wasn't working 6 weeks ago either. A ten pound difference is probably a matter of a messed up set point. If that's true, then your weight might have been higher to begin with, and that 20 pound weight loss is real.

I would get some new batteries and try them, try a new scale, try the scale in various spots in the house (mine is off if the ground isn't perfect level), and start taking your measurements since they can show fat loss even when the scale doesn't.

And cleancowgirl is right, having access to a medical grade scale you can use is great too. I don't use the one at my gym because it's out in public (eep!) but when I go to the doctor I always check that the weight there is the same at home.

Do you have hand weights that you can put on your scale to test it's accuracy? I set a couple of 5 pounders on my scale once in awhile to make sure it's not getting wonky.

Did you get weighed at the dr's when you first started your diet?
