We do not have many clothing stores where I live and Wal Mart plus size in our area leaves A LOT to be desired, so where do you shop online or at which stores?

Old Navy, particularly if they are having a sale. I don't want to spend too much moolah on clothes that I don't want to be wearing next season so I just go cheap and hope I don't have to ever buy that size again. Also, Burlington coat factory...for work blouses and pantyhose.

Only now am I having any luck at good will at my heaviest (263) I've never found anything ! It was depressing for me but I see tons of plus sized ladies having luck at goodwill I don't understand I'm a little jealous !

The secret to finding plus size clothing (or any rare or very popular item) at Goodwill is to approach the shopping as if it were hunting rare animals. You have to be persistant and patient and stalk your quarry by learning the appropriate patterns. Persistent by shopping frequently. A once-a-month Saturday shop isn't going to do it.

At my highest weight, I was able to get about half my clothes from thrift stores (the other from bcoutlet.com which also requires a similar persistence - checking the website frequently).

One to three days a week, trying different days and times, I'd shop five different shops. I asked the staff when new items came in (some shops put new stuff out daily, others have a set schedule). If the shop allowed, I'd leave my name and phone and the specific item(s) I was looking for.

I would say that for clothing, I averaged about 10 failed trips to every successful find, but by shopping so frequently, when I did succeed, it was often a "jackpot" because people tend to donate clothing in lots. By being there before everyone else, I got first crack. I shop for other things, so I do find other items too, but even so, about 3/4 of my thrift store shopping excursions yield nothing.

Bcoutlet.com is a clearance site for Redcat shops (Avenue, Torrid, Roaman's, Woman Within, and others).

Many items and sizes sell out quickly so you have to browse frequently and when you find something you like, buy it, because items can sell out in minutes.

Just went to Old Navy, everything is 30% off today and tomorrow. Bought way too much. Was at Macy's too, lots of sales online and in store and they have a good plus size section.

I dont' know if this should be a separate thread....but how do you get past the problem I've noticed in my 20+ years of buying plus sized clothing that the makers of the clothes think that all plus sized ladies are just really big ladies. I am NOT 6 feet tall so when I go to buy most pants/jeans in my size they are WAY too long. Similarly when I want a shirt (especially one that buttons up) they don't fit properly because I do not have a huge chest. It's like they take their regular sizes and just enlarge them proportionately for a higher weight.

It depends on who is having a sale when I need clothes lol today I went to Lane Bryant for shorts because all shorts were $15 today only. I also go to old navy and torrid sometimes (I'm finding that with torrid the price is high and quality is too often meh so it isnt often worth it for me)

Thanks for the suggestions. I just ordered two tops from Serengeti and one from Overstock.com. We do not have a Goodwill in the area, Old Navy is about a 45 minute drive as well as any other major store, so online is easier. I also get magazines from North Style, Paragon, and Blair that handle plus size clothes.

I get a lot of my casual and stay at home clothes at Women Within, which is online. I also shop Dress Barn and Lane Bryant at our outlet mall that is about 30 minutes away. In town I buy at Khols, Catherine's, and Cato Plus.
