Easter eating observation

Dh and I went to MIL's for Easter weeked. Saturday night, DH and I shared a piece of cake, the first big sweet since Lent began March 5th. Other than that, I was OP for the day. Sunday, I ate OP for breakfast and supper, but ate what was served for Easter dinner -- which, of course, was not OP. I didn't overeat at all. I just ate high calorie, not necessarily high quality foods.

Here is my observation: the way I felt after eating Easter dinner proved to me just how healthy my plan has been and just how much my body has changed since eating OP starting March 5th. After Easter dinner, I could literally feel the changes occuring in my blood sugar levels. I was dizzy and tired and irritable. And then, I had diarrhea for the rest of the night and a lot of stomach cramping. I was so tired I just wanted to sleep.

Now, the truly scary thing is that I used to eat like this all the time and just lived with these feelings. They seemed normal back then. Now, afer 7 weeks of eating healthy, avoiding sweets and processed foods, I could tell the difference. And I hated it. I hated the way I felt after dinner and into the night. I hated it so much that I am detoxing today by eating only fruits (in smoothie form) and drinking tons of water -- just to clean out my system again.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you because I think that it is important to realize just how much our bodies crave good food and exercise!

Have any of you had the same experience?

Peace,
Paula

totally! any time i eat something very different from the normal, i get the runs.

i get them EVERY time i eat chinese food. but oh god, i can't give chinese up. i just don't have it very often.

i got them yesterday too, but i didn't eat horrible. david and i decided it was because i ate a lot more protien (with the ham) than i usually do, and my carbs were way down (i skipped on the bread and potatoes).

so any time i change my percentages of carbs/protiens/fat a lot, it happens and i feel awful.

Yeah, this happens all the time. It takes your body a lot shorter time to realize it likes good food then it does to get results from exercise.

Back in 1985, I was in Navy boot camp. We'd just gotten to the end of five weeks and went to the Exchange to buy more shampoo and other necessities. The DI let us stop at the candy machines for a treat before we went back to the barracks. I had not eaten any sweets for five weeks. I ate a Snickers bar and was sick before I finished it.

Moments like these remind me just how awful some of the food we put into our bodies really is!

Peace,
Paula

I'm glad you talked about this, lol. I feel the same way. I'm regular untill I eat carbs. Then it is run city! I also get the cramps and very tired.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one!

Well...my smoothie fast worked well and got me down below my original Easter goal -- and really cleaned me out -- which I needed. I feel like a new woman today. Still scares me to think that I used to eat like Easter regularly! Argh!

Peace,
Paula

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been eating pretty badly the past three days, and I'm feeling it. I've been eating mostly carbs, mostly sugar, lots of chocolate, and not enough protein or water. I've felt slightly sick to my stomach and downright lethargic for three days. I need to get back to normal tomorrow. I've been letting myself eat pretty much anything I've wanted since Easter, especially since I reached goal, but enough is enough. Back to healthy eating!!! It feels so much better!
