When do you need the most willpower?

  • For me it is after 5:00pm. I have this urge to graze while watching television which I am still trying to conquer.
  • After a long day of school! ): I wanna go home and I get tempted to go to a fast food place, but luckily I pulled myself through.
  • Around this time of day, an hour before dinner when I'm really hungry, or cooking. It's so easy to taste what you're cooking, but I taste almost enough to be considered a meal.
  • I almost always do fine up until 9:30 or 10 pm. Then I just want to snack. I try to plan to eat plain air popped popcorn every night around 9 to avoid it, but sometimes it doesn't work.
  • When others around me are eating badly or talking about eating badly. But on a day to day basis, I'd say in the late evenings.
  • Eating in front of the tv has become a habit. One way to tame this is to only eat at the table with proper utensils. I've never believed in willpower. I believe its a matter of choice to support your weight loss efforts or not.
  • When I'm really tired, really hungry, under certain kinds of stress, or around a trigger food.

I try to have food ready for these situations.
  • After lunch for me. I start wanting to snack around 2 PM and really struggle with it until dinner.

I'm also an emotional eater so if I'm down or stressed I begin wanting to eat. It's still hard to tell myself "this is in your head! You aren't actually hungry, just stressed out!"

Pinterest has also become a test of willpower. Seeing images of beautiful plates of (usually unhealthy) food makes me crave unhealthy things. I've learned to stay on the healthy sections of the website.
  • between dinner and bed time
  • I do calorie cycling, so a couple times a week my calories are really low, like around 500 for the day. Usually hunger isn't too much of a problem (the premise is that the low calorie days activate the SIRT1 gene, which then kicks in fat-burning and appetite suppression).

But once in a while, I just get an extra-hungry day. If I didn't KNOW that the next day I'd be able to eat pretty much whatever I wanted, I'd have given in many times. Sometimes it's enough to have just 100 calories more than my limit. Especially in the evenings, if I've had my miniscule dinner too early and then I stay up later than usual.
  • 3pm and 10 pm. The 3 pm snack is easier to handle because the kids are having their snack as well. 10pm...anything can happen. : ) I should say, used to happen.

Synger...I've played with a similar high/low calorie plan, but only by chance and it works. Is this a formal plan and where did you get your info?
  • Sun up to sun down?

My worst is right after work before dinner or after the kids go to bed before my bed time. Also, I have classes on Mondays and Wednesdays which makes a non stop day from 6 am until 9:30pm. When I get home after that, sometimes I just want to eat.
  • Also, forgot to mention I need MAJOR willpower about a week before TOM. My hormones are going crazy during that time and I'll crave some sort of random food. Sometimes it's pickles, sometimes it's ice cream, sometimes granola bars, etc. Madness!!
  • I forgot to mention just before winter. Yes, I store up food like a bear. Seriously. ; )
  • When I'm under pressure or stress, have received bad news, etc. My first instinct is always to get something unhealthy to eat. Also, between lunch and dinner. I'm trying not to snack so I always have to 'suffer' through these hours or just have fruit.
