Junebugg- Don't give up! You know how a woman's system works. I mostly have two weeks a month with no weight loss, no matter how hard I work out and record calories. Keep it up and you should see results in the next couple of weeks! When I am recording calories & working out very regularly, I only weigh myself once a month. That way I know I have true results.

Isabunny I've been switching to a gluten free diet the last few weeks. It's a slow transition for me as I try to learn how to switch things up and find alternatives for myself that my husband would be ok with too. I'm finding myself with more energy and hopefully will see some other changes soon.

Did you go gluten free for weight loss or because of intolerance issues?

Isabunny 04-11-2012 05:45 PM

I believe that I can't lose weight due to an intolerance to gluten. Seems like lots of people have a problem losing weight if they have problems with gluten, and usually don't even know it! In order to lose weight you do not want to replace gluten with processed gluten free foods. People who go gluten free can gain weight by eating lots of gluten free cookies, pizzas, pasta, ect... I avoid all of these products and try to eat veggies, lean meats, nuts, fruits, and beans. There are some great books out there with gluten free recipes (I like the Everyday Palio Cookbook). Palio is a gluten free lifestyle also.

Thanks so much for your positive words of encouragement isabunny :) I needed that this evening. I should maybe think about weighing just once or twice a month so I don't drive myself crazy. I just have to keep pushing through and remembering that the scale is not the only indication of success.

I just saw your comment...thanks smallsteps :)

I never ever thought about going gluten free... in college I had friends who did that "to be healthy" and just ate junk food that didn't have gluten and expected to lose. I knew that wasn't right so I never ever thought about making it a life style for me.

Well, here I am years later and after a lot of research online, I decided for 30 days I would give up gluten. Now, here I am 11 days later and I've messed up on 3 days... but 3 is better than all 11. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that it's an all or nothing type of thing so I'm taking it a day at a time. However, I have seen success so far so I'm looking forward to the rest of the month.

I'm not following a paleo diet but I'm working really hard to clean up my eating for the most part of the day. I have been feeling so much better.

254.3 today. That 50lb mark is tantalizingly close... and now my knee is restricting my workout options (boo!). I'm so scared of hitting that plateau any day now...

Up 3/4 of a pound this week. http://www.cool-smileys.com/images/clam.gif Boo.

Not letting it stop me though . . . I'll keep working hard and see how I do in the next two weeks (no weigh-in for me next week). :)

kwigg- you can do it! Instead of thinking "I messed up three times" think instead I did really great 7/11 days, I can do this!" It really takes some planning though, but if you put your mind to it you will get use to it! I print out a blank weekly calendar online and then plan my week out & shop for those foods.

I remember after going gluten free, how unpuffy I felt just after 2 days. It was like my system was holding onto all this salt/water weight and after I stopped eating those foods I felt so much better. Then after awhile (it takes 15 days of being gluten free) I felt like all my cravings for sweets, breads, ect.. go away. It was like, for the first time, my mind wasn't thinking about food constantly. I just felt like what a normal weight person feels. It was quite strange and really great. You do have to go totally gluten free to get all the benefits because your stomach has to heal itself. Once your stomach is healed, you start processing all the nutrients that your body didn't process when you eat gluten. I believe that is the reason why so many overweight people have gluten intolerence. You keep eating and feeling hungry because your body isn't getting the nutrition it needs! I never feel satisfied, unless I am eating all gluten free. When you do mess up and eat gluten, it takes another 15 days for your stomach to heal again. That is what had kept me passing on those foods that were not gluten free. I also stick with unprocessed foods (veggies, nuts, fruits, lean meats).

I am on day 2 of a 60 day juice fast and loving it so far! I feel energized. It helps that I enjoy the juices. I like that I really don't have to think about what I am eating for awhile. I am trying to get all the salt out of my body and lose a little more weight at a faster rate than usual. I am not a crash diet type of person, but I just want to be able to lose a little more than the less than 1 pound a week I typically do.

50lbs, what a HUGE acomplishment!! Nearly there. :) I slided my foot open yesterday, I know its frustrating to have an injury. Good luck working around the knee.

Wii Fit

I used to weigh with the Wii Fit, but my Balance Board's batteries died, so I've not used it in a month.

It is what I tracked my weight loss at before the batteries died. It says I am 248.2 with a BMI of 39.7

When I began my weight loss journey in September my BMI was over 50.

Still "obese" but out of the "morbidly obese".

Plus I've now lost what my son weighs!

This is an exciting day!!
