I'm planning to start C25K and am working on my own personalized podcast. My taste in music is pretty eclectic, pretty much anything other than rap and opera. I'm looking for suggestions... What are your favorite songs to exercise along with?
Totally not the question you asked BUT I listen to audiobooks when I run and it got me through the C25k program (I run a 5k 3x a week now). I find that it keeps my mind occupied so when it is a difficult stretch, I just get lost in the story.
Like Bee, I also sometimes listen to things like books on tape. (For me, it's textbooks - I'm so not the cool one.) It also helps keep my mind occupied.
But music is really helpful to get the most out of a work-out. I've read studies (that I could cite if I were ambitious enough to look them up) that people who listen to up-tempo music during work-outs burn significantly more calories.
I love threads like these, and can't wait to see what people add to this after the weekend (when the forum is more active). But, here are my go-to songs.
Lose Yourself - Eminem (there's a clean version) - If I'm at the point where I want to give up, I always switch to this. It's really inspiring.
Holding Out For a Hero - Bonnie Tyler - I save this for the end, when I need a last-minute thrust to finish out my work-out strong.
I switch my playlist frequently, but here's some other songs I currently have:
Harder to Breath - Maroon 5
Wake-up Call - Maroon 5
Eye of a Tiger - Survivor
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna
Karma Chameleon - Boy George
Stronger - Kanye West
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
Some people are ambitious enough to create a mix of songs that match the pace they want to do at particular points in a run. That would make me crazy (although it sounds really good on a theoretical level). I just put a bunch of faster-paced songs that I like together in a playlist and hit the randomizer. I love not knowing what's coming up next, and if it's a song that really hits me right, it really helps pump me up.
I have toyed with doing C25K. I'm not totally convinced yet, but I looked at the program, and have decided to do week 1. Starting today. I came back here, though, because they have podcasts for each week that are timed to trigger the slow-downs and speed-ups. I thought I'd post the link. (I just glanced at the link policy, and it looks like it's okay. . . .)
I have just made mhy new gym/run playlist and mine has some of the same things others have suggested! I've also got:
The Wolf -
The Golden Age - The Asteroids galaxy Tour (from the commercial. Kept bugging me until I got it.)
Running Up that Hill
In My Arms - Plumb
Rio Bravo - CKY
Anthem of the Angels - Breaking Benjamin
I can't remember the others off the top of my head.....
I'm building one to start jogging so I'm interested in suggestions too!
I've included some youtube links bc I am using a walking desk on a treadmill and I actually watch the videos when I am jogging. I like a lot of classic rock and some newer stuff.
I'm loving a song by Young the Giant, called "My Body" there's a great line for when I'm tired, it says "My body tells me no...but I won't quit... cuz I want more"
"Don't Stop Believin'"- Journey
"Love the Way You Lie"-Eminem/Rihana
"Calle Ocho"-Pitbull
"On the Floor"-Jennifer Lopez/Pitbull
"Man in Motion"(from St. Elmo's Fire)
"Not Afraid"-Eminem
'Are you gonna kiss me or not"-Thompson Square
"Hungry Eyes" (from Dirty Dancing)
"Paradise City"-Guns & Roses
"Jessie's Girl"-Rick Springfield
"Never Surrender"-Corey Hart
I love all kinds of music, these are just a few. Is it obvious that I was a teenager in the 80's?
I started the C25K last week. I am amazed at how easy it is to keep going.
Here is a part of my song list.

Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas
Crazy B**** - Buck Cherry
Ler er Rip - Dixie Chicks
