Default Pilates Rocks!

I bought the Pilates for Dummies DVD a few weeks ago and never got around to looking at it. Well in a burst of motivation I put it on today and I really liked it. There were a lot of exercises I couldn't get through but I think I did a pretty good job with the ones I did do. It really works the abs big time.

Anyone else trying it?

I'm afraid to!
Yoga, right now, is a killer exercise for me.

If you can do yoga you can do Pilates. There were a few exercises I couldn't do because of my big belly getting in the way. You only do a few repititions, its about quality not quantity.

I have Pilates for Dummies too and I love it! Tracy York is the producer and she knows how to keep you coming back. (Why I won't part with my Abs and Chest of Steel 2000). The more often you do it the less parts of you spill over, as my core has gotten stronger I stand up straighter BONUS! The sidekick series is my biggest problem but I am not scared, quality not quanity ;-)

GO PILATES CHICKS!

I have never done Yoga or piliates, always been a walker and step aerobics girl.

But last week I joined curves and I am loving it. I've been EVERY day this week.

I love ballet and I love yoga so I think Pilates might be a next step for me.

Funny story:
I did my yoga video and my 10 minutes quickie arms video and the next day my arms were killing me. So, a couple days later, I was like, "Okay, I'll just do my arm video." And I was fine... wait I wasn't fine, I didn't get ANYTHING out of it. So, I did my yoga video, again the next day I was so sore. Kicked my butt without even making me think about it!!

This is excellent for me. My sis loaned me a Pilates machine. I did it quite a few times in a row and then she took it back. We were going to buy one but need all the money for the adoption.

So, I'm guessing this DVD doesn't need a machine? that would rock.

I need to try Yoga again. I have an excellent video. I just got distracted by the Pilates machine and then haven't done anything since it's been gone.

Of course, I'm still recovering from all the painting and cleaning I've done this week. (I've got fibromyalgia and extreme physical outbursts like this week send me into a flare).

That's why I HAVE to build up an exercise routine. I do better when I'm doing something.

Well I know today that I have some abdominal muscles because they are SUPER sore after yesterday's Pilates workout.

No you don't need a machine with the DVD, what is the machine like?

I haven't done my yoga tape in awhile so I can't say what the difference is. With Pilates you do repititions of a certain exercise where with yoga you mostly get yourself into a position and hold it for a certain number of breaths. Yoga kicks too, you don't realize it til afterward that it can be a tough workout.

the Pilates machine is basically tracks with a movable seat (moves with bungies so there's always resistance) you can lie down or sit on. Then there are several bungies that have straps - you can put them on your arms, or legs or feet or whatever.
