Default There are some days I just love children :)

Some days, I want to rip my hair out working with 6th graders, but other days, I love children and their lack of tact or subtlety. Today, I heard a former student in the next room say "Is that Miss Spix...she looks a lot skinnier." This was then followed by the student coming to my room and saying "Hi there... you look skinnier." No compliments or questions about "how I'm losing weight." No awkwardness or misinterpretation. No hidden insults disguised as concern due to the jealousy of a coworker. Just a plain statement of fact.

After a fairly crappy day, it was a nice reminder of why I prefer a job working with kids compared to an office filled with grown-ups

Nothing left to say. Just read your post, and it made me smile. Congrats on your weight loss. Good luck!

That is funny. Middle schoolers are their own species, I think.

It's funny, it doesn't stop when they get older. I still get those sort of compliments from the sixteen year old boys I teach when they're feeling gracious.

Kids are great sometimes. Trazey, that reminds me of my mother. She was a special ed teacher who taught kids with learning disorders or autism. She was also losing weight at the time, and lost a significant amount, and she liked it when she got those comments. It was really funny to her, and sweet too. Also, Asperger's kids/adults tend to be seriously smart, probably because they ask questions like that. My dad has Asperger's. However, he does lack a certain amount of tact. lol

One thing that you can count on is that kids say it like it is. No question now, people can see how much weight you have lost.
