Don't focus on the whole amount you have to lose, just take it 10 or even 5 pounds at a time. Those smaller amounts will eventually add up to something huge!

Make a commitment to remain on plan for one year and stick to it no matter what the scale says.

I would say be honest with yourself, when we are many things will reveal themselves or fall into place. :)

Pick a plan that is sustainable, its great if you lose a bunch of weight quickly, but if you cant sustain whatever you are doing to lose, at best, you will stall, and at worst, you will gain it all back or more

When you need to lose 100 lbs, losing just half that amount will change your life for the better by a lot!

Plan, plan and plan some more.

Realize that by taking control of your health, you are loving yourself not punishing yourself.
