A NSV- running in 35 degrees, rain, dark, slugs...

  • Since moving to a new home, I have been really hesitant about running outside. It is COLD here, always rainy, etc. Not comfortable at all. I have a treadmill, but I really dislike it and don't challenge myself. So tonight I took a big step and ran two miles outside. It was 35 degrees and the rain was coming down in sheets. It was also pitch black (except for my headlight). And ther was big, ugly slugs and worms on the sidewalk... everywhere.

But I did it! I ran two miles, ignoring the slugs, cold, rain, etc. I feel so good right now! Looking forward to doing it again tomorrow night.

And I am not going to look at the bottoms of my shoes. The slugs were everywhere. They couldn't be avoided.
  • Oh my! I can deal with the rain and the cold. But those slugs would've freaked me out! You rock!
  • Amazing!

I could cope with the rain but not the slugs or the dark. Oh, or the running! I am Very Impressed!
  • I much prefer outdoor running. I need the feeling of fresh air. BUT, only between April and October, 7am - 11am, 60-79 degrees, 6, but not 7 clouds, a sky of no darker than powder blue, a humidity of.....
I am in awe of you!
  • Some people buy treadmills just so they WON'T have to run at 35 degrees in pouring rain in the dark, smashing slugs and worms. But, I guess you decided to test your toughness. Good luck to you... or perhaps I should type that "goo uck" You won't find me out there...

    Jay
  • That is a huge accomplishment, and I bet it felt terrific. (although, I'm sticking to my treadmill.)
  • Thanks everyone. I felt really proud of myself for getting out there. The treadmill is NOT a good place for me to be.

And this morning I discovered that my husband had cleaned off my shoes. Gotta love that guy.
