Had a tanty on the scales this morning

  • I know I say that I'm getting used to just observing the readout, and not letting it get to me but come one, we're only human!
    I was so close to being 3 stone off (42lbs) and my ankles were so thin when I went to bed and even thinner this morning, so not holding excess water..... and then, as far as I could recall it, I appeared to be the exact same weight; or was it a couple of ounces more?

    After a short dance of rage, I resumed my ablutions and tried to become matter of fact about it.

    I then came and logged onto DPower, to find that actually, I'm slightly over half a pound down on yesterday, and I've made my 3 stone! In fact 42lbs 4oz lost.

    What had confused me was that to get to 3 stone, it would be 173.6. My next target after that is the hugely significant 172, and I'd only got that one in my head somehow. A bit like when you're driving and you see the 2nd set of traffic lights ahead of you, missing a nearer set.

    So, today 173.2, 3 stone and 1/4lb lost, and about to skip into town for my next reward bead.
  • Hi Rosinante

    I am reading with great interest you use also DPower.
    I just discovered this tool, but I am amazed: since I am using it (now over 2 months) I got aware about so many things I never took into consideration. And, yes, I know the feeling, if you think you never ever would have lost anything, because you feel actually so full of water... the scale does give me one surprise after the other.

    Congrats for your achievements so far, keep it up
  • I am so glad that you figured it out and realized that you are entitled to your next reward!

    Isn't it amazing, however, how much we all let that number effect our outlook.

    Carry on.
  • Congratulations! Two questions...1. what is Dpower? and 2. what is a reward bead?
  • Ha! I know the driving analogy well. Good way to describe it.

    We are all human indeed. I'm like you. I'm good with day to day fluctuations but every now and then I still get frustrated with the scale, especially when I get it in my head that it should reflect what I do. LOL!

    A big congratulations to you! You are meeting and SMASHING so many of your goals!
  • You make me smile. Glad you realized that you had lost weight! Congratulations and enjoy the new bead.
  • thankyou!

    Ianae: DietPower is a calorie/nutrient tracking programme. I found it about 7 years ago (wow), and at that stage I didn't know there were free online programmes available. Not that it cost a fortune: $49, and I think there's been one paid update since.
    The good thing about it is that it is a standalone programme, i.e. you download it into your computer, it's not dependent on the web working.
    The bad thing about it is that it is a standalone programme, i.e. you can't download it onto more than one computer, it won't fit on a netbook and there's no app. So it's not portable for out of town trips.

    I stick with it because I have a graph on it that goes back to 12/30/2004, when I was 168.0. My interim ambition is to make 167.9!!!!!

    I decided as this weightloss progressed that I'd buy myself a trollbead bracelet, and add a stone for every stone (14lbs) lost. I'm counting stones since the re-re-start in May 2010, and as of today it's 3!! woot!
  • Wow, great idea with the bracelet building!

    (though the whole 'stone' thing ALWAYS baffles me. It's like, extra math! LOL)
  • heehee

    (UK) kids don't know they're born these days, everything is in base 10.

    "When I were a lass"
    12d (pennies) = 1shilling, 20 shillings = 1 pound, 2 shillings = 1 florin, 30d = half a crown
    16oz = 1 pound, 14lbs = 1 stone, 112lbs = 1 hundredweight (I never got that, 100 whats?)
    12" = 1 foot, 3' = 1 yard, 1,760 yards = 1 mile

    Good job I have a sense of humour, the scales bounced a whole pound back again today!
  • Good for you!! I'm still confused though, is the "tanty" when you were upset initially or when you realized it was a good number??
  • I had a total tantrum because I thought I'd gained when I'd felt so thinny the night before.
    today it was just heyho.
  • Wow. What a nice thing to discover!

    Keep up the great work. As if you wouldn't.
