Goodbye 230s, I was not fond of you

  • I hit 229.5 this morning. I got into the 230s after losing my house in hurricane Katrina while I was in law school.

I had to live in a hotel, and then someone's garage apt. I didn't have a stove and only had a small fridge. I was so stressed that I could BARELY grocery shop and without a stove or regular fridge, I couldn't cook at all. I ate lunch from fast food places on campus and ate dinner at a greasy Mexican American restaurant that was next door almost every night.

It really showed me how poverty can contribute to obesity. If you can't buy good groceries and cook, your food choices can easily be unhealthy.

So, bye 230s, I hated you more than the 240s because you hit me when I was already down.
  • Congratulations!

You are a survivor. Few people know what it's really like to get through that kind of disaster. You must have a lot of stick-to-it to have kept going. My hat is off to you!

    Thanks, that's really sweet!
  • I loved seeing this goal because this is my first "mini" goal. It's great what you've been able to do and the adversity you've overcome. Keep that attitude and there won't be a goal you can't achieve!

    Keep believing

  • Congrats Jess!!!!!

P.S., I haven't seen you since Johnny D's a long time ago. Lets meet up soon. Maybe go for another walk?
  • Thanks SassyPoppet, Sandi and time2lose!

Yeah, Matt, I would be totally down with that. I can walk a lot better now.
  • Congratulations! What a great achievement!
I can't wait to get there myself.
