A loss of a different sort ...

So a few weeks back, I discovered that my running shoes, which typically fit, did not after about 8 miles - the typical swelling of the feet that comes with running made the second toes on each foot rub against the front inside of my shoe. In fact, after running 10 miles, the only really sore part of my body was my toes!

Consequently, the toenails on those toes discolored (known in the running world as 'black toenail') and well, tonight - I lost one! Ewwwwwww!

Maybe I should get one of these. ;)

It actually doesn't hurt, but word to the wise: make sure your running shoes have enough toe room!

Ow!

Are you in the right last? Is this the pinkie toe?

in my family we call black toe nails 'a runner's badge of honour'. You are now officially a hard core runner! Congratulations.

Gross! But you know WHAT???? It's happening on my big left toe! THANK YOU for telling me what it is!!!!

Not my pinkie toes - the ones next to my big toes, which are apparently slighter longer than all my other toes, since they were the only ones that rubbed. After that first long run, I went to a running shoe store and got properly fitted - and got put in a size and a half larger than what I was running in! Those are the shoes I wore for the half marathon and I didn't have any feet problems.

I do consider it a badge of honor in a twisted sort of way!

Yup, that's what it is. :) And apparently it can take weeks or months but eventually that toenail will come off. I haven't lost the other one yet, but (and this is still gross and probably TMI) on the toe I did lose, I noticed there is a very thin new nail there, so it's not like it's bare toe skin, which is probably why it didn't hurt like I thought it would.

OK, toe talk over! :D
