I ordered mine last month. I should get it at the end of the month. I cannot wait! I like the fact that the fitbit will track my sleeping (since I sleep during the day, I want to see if I'm getting adequate rest) and there is not monthly subscription. I walk a lot and I like that it is small. I hope it's worth it. ^_^

They are making constant changes to their database, I remember not liking it much when I first ordered mine (October 2009), it seemed most everything I eat had to be manually entered. I started using the site religiously the end of December when I got my fitbit and it was so improved I was very impressed. Now its rare I have to enter anything I eat and if I do I just jump on the daily plate via Livestrong and grab the info.

I am completely satisfied.

As far as activities, I don't manually enter much, I just let my fitbit track my movement and go by their calories burned calculations. Then again, I mostly walk, so it's easy.

So I take it you don't HAVE to log what activities you did, it just makes the data more useful if you do. Is that the idea?

Yep. That's about it.

I'm really looking forward to getting it. I just read an article by a woman who compared her bodybugg to a fitbit and found the fitbit to be much more user friendly........her opinion.

I can vouch for the hotness and the humidity in Mississippi. You practically mildew just walking out the front door in the summer :D

Since you brought this up Petra, I have been fascinated by this whole thing. I never heard of these devices until I came here. I'm leaning towards liking the fitbit thing because it's small, cheaper and the online stuff is free. To be honest, I'm really interested in the sleep part of it. I don't think I sleep very well and I'd like to confirm that.

The part I'm not sure about with any of these is the types of exercise it monitors. For example, I swim, I bike, the fitbit states on its website that these types of activity can't be tracked with the device. I'm not sure on the gowear.

I don't think either device does well with water so it won't be able to track your swimming. The gowear does measure skin temp and sweat to some degree and would be able to tell how much you are exerting yourself while biking. The fitbit will be able to tell you are moving but not how much you are exerting yourself. On their website, they have certain activity areas for you to log your activity (including biking and swimming) and I think they have worked out some algorigthms to estimate your calories.

the GWF is not waterproof, so you have to add in swimming separately. It tracks biking because it measures calorie expenditure along with motion. I've used mine with my exercise bike and it definitely captures those calories!

I'm thrilled with my GWF and I think whether you get that or the BodyBugg or the Fitbit, they are all a GREAT tool to help with weight loss. Today is day 12 for me of using the GWF and I was down 7.2 lbs this morning since I started with it. in 12 days - after being able barely eke out 5 lbs a month the past 2 months!!!

Peanutsmom-that's awesome!!

PeanutsMom704 03-12-2010 08:52 PM

thanks Petra!

I'm excited for you to get your fitbit, I think it will make a big difference for you too. I generally do ok with my calories but knowing that I want to hit that 1000 calorie deficit really helps keep me on track there. I feel like I've really been able to focus in on the combo of the right amount of food and movement to get things moving in terms of the scale.

I LOVE my fitbit!
