As far as incorporating more movement into my day goes, I'm doing a lot more getting up off my butt, walking to see co-workers when I need to have a conversation rather than phoning or IMing these days. Besides the additional walking itself, I realized that mentally it's good for me to get away from my desk where I'm inclined to sit all day usually (even through lunch), especially when I'm busy.

Here's another thing I do sometimes - if I go to Target or the supermarket and I'm not pressed for time, I do a couple of laps around the perimeter of the store (inside) before I start shopping. Sort of a mini mall-walk.

I never used to wear a pedometer, so having that feature on the Gowear Fit has been helpful for me, I definitely look for opportunities to log some extra steps!!

One thing I came up with is to stop using a laundry basket to do laundry. My house is all one level so I'm not running stuff up and down stairs, but I'll carry an armful and then go back and get a second one, etc. And then when it's dry, I do the same thing - make several trips to get it all and put it on my bed and fold it all. It's not a lot of steps, but it adds a few hundred more than just carrying one basket one time. I figure every little bit of movement helps!

Lol, I don't work and my apt. is one room, so I NEVER have a chance to add steps. I could arrange the computer where I am standing instead of sitting, but the reason I don't have a job and am on disability is because I can't stand for more than an hour or two. I can walk for hours, though, so I have started walking to all of my appointments that are down-town. That adds about 4-6 miles to my exercise for the week, so at least that is something!

Wow this is a interesting post. I was reading about NEAT also a couple of days ago and I have decided to get a stand up computer desk. The one that I plan on getting is adjustable so I can sit down or stand if I want with the flip of a lever. Since I have a bodybugg I can see that simple things like cleaning the house do add up and going for a short 20 minute walk helps me burn a good amount of calories. Also I noticed that when Im on the computer if I stand up I have the energy to do other task. Usually if Im sitting at the computer I tend to just want to stay there since Im sitting but once I stand while on the computer its not hard to go do other task around the house. Plus its easier to think and have more energy while standing instead of sitting at the computer.

It's funny, but when I stand while I'm working, my mental focus is so much better. I have a lot less of those "Ugh, I'm tired and bored and don't wanna do this" moments.

I often step/march in place while I am watching a movie or t.v. show, cooking dinner, folding laundry, waiting in check-out lines, etc.

I sit all day at work so I've added in a few things to get me moving durning the day. In October. I changed my parking from a parking structure attatched to my building to one over .25 miles from my building. Not only did it save me $75 a month, but it's 6-7 minutes of walking. On my breaks, I spend 5 minutes walking the steps in my building, on my hour lunch, I walk outside (last year I had this up to a great mid-day workout). I walk around my office anytime I have a chance. I used to work in daycare. Losing weight was much easier because with 8 toddlers, there was no sitting down ever. I really miss that amount of movement durning the day.
