mind games...

Sometimes my goal weight/size is not only just so far away, it's impossible.

Logically, it isn't, I know.
Logically, a person my height should be able to get to 145lbs.

Still, to me, my goal feels like it ends with a question mark rather than an exclamation point. I find myself thinking "if I make it to goal..." rather than "when I make it to goal..." and I think that is primarily because I'm not yet completely convinced that I CAN do it.

So, how important was it for you to really, truly and honestly convince yourself that your goal was achievable? Not just to hope for it, but to know that, given enough time, your body would have no choice but to shrink down to that seemingly unattainable size? How did you convince yourself it was possible?

Really for me.. it was just seeing the difference on the scale. When I first tried losing weight, it was in high school and I was at 192. The moment I saw my weight lowered into the 180's.. I knew it was possible. 130 seemed so far away, but looking towards smaller increments like every 10 was what made it easier. When I lost my first 20 and saw the difference in my body, that's when I just KNEW that I could do it... that's when I knew that the first few lbs weren't just a fluke, I really understood that I could control my weight, and get smaller! Finally,I felt like I was in full control of my body.
Even now, after I gained back a lot of weight, I have no one else but me to blame, I wasn't watching my weight at all and I consciously put my weight in the back of my mind, but I know all isn't lost because I can take it off as well, this time I just have to keep monitoring my weight!

For me, I chose a goal that put me within normal BMI. I am told by people that I can be 20 lbs lighter cuz of my height- but right now I chose a goal, that to me, seems feasible. I will re-assess when I get to that weight. 115 for my body type seems wrong. And some people have different body types also, even in BMI there is a range for every height :)

Sometimes you'll know more when you get close to that number.

I think it's easier, in the long run, to think of short term goals. Somehow five pounds sounds so much more manageable than 50.
