Let's not be a statistic...
I heard on TV that a large number of folks who start trying to lose weight at the first of the year quit within six weeks. So that's about Valentine's Day.
Let's say - We are in it to win it. Getting healthy for life is our goal. No six week wonders here..carry on! |
Great point Beverly! I remember last year I did a little research here on 3FC. I can't remember the exact stats but it wasn't very good at all.
As with every year (I'm sure), there were 100's of new members in the first couple weeks of January. I went back and checked the "last activity" on just a few days worth of the "Resolution newbies" and many never even made it (on 3FC) past their first post. Another 1/2 past the first week, and another large percentage past the first month. If you look around now, there are just a couple (out of 100's) with join dates of Jan2009. OF COURSE, we hope that all those people found another group, or did it on their own, but in reality probably most of them are sitting at the same weight or more this year... I know how terrible they must feel. I did the same thing year after year. I'm so glad that the procrastination is over for me. |
Well, I'm starting week 14 today, so I've beaten the statistic! :carrot: I figure if you can make it through Thanksgiving and Christmas, you're good to go. :D
I hate being a statistic. I can't wait to get into the normal range so my doctor can take me off her list. |
Not a statistic here! I will still be here in March, June, September, January 2011! You guys are stuck with me! LOL!
|
Great post Beverly! The support here has been such an inspiration to me during the first few months. Let's all go the distance together. :carrot:
|
I vow to NOT be a statistic in this instance!!!
|
Good point! I will NOT be a stastic. I've been here 15-ish weeks. I intend to keep on keeping on. I've seen what happens when I don't and I NEVER want to be there again.
|
Here's a statistic that we DO want to be part of ...
:balloons: The 5% Club!:balloons: Those pesky statistics tell us that 95% of people who lose weight will gain it all back. Which means that 5% don't!! So let's all take a vow that if we're going to become a statistic, it's being part of the 5% Club. :carrot: When we started the Maintainers forum here a few years ago, that's actually a name that we kicked around as a possibility. But we decided against it since most people wouldn't understand what The 5% Club means. But WE do! I like being part of that statistic. :D |
5%? That's a statistic I WANNA be a part of!
|
5%? Wha! Well, one good thing...I'm just stubborn enough to do it. ;)
|
ME TOO!!!!!!!
5% club is for me. |
Not a statistic! I feel committed. I believe I WILL do it this time.
|
the 5% statistic is the only one I want to be a part of!! :D
|
Future member of the 5% club here. :)
|
I started on 11/2/09. I found 3FC in December and lurked for a couple of weeks until someone mentioned the January rush. So I signed up right away, I didn't want to get caught up in the January rush, because I knew I wasn't making some casual New Year's resolution, only to let it fall by the wayside.
Yes, I was here in January, but more importantly, I'll be here in March - and in March of next year too! And I'm definitely aiming for that 5% club. |
I will be part of the 5% club!!!! I will I will I will... and lets face it. I've been maintaining my loss all along!!!! I'm over 16 months into this!!!
|
Hey, lets all squeeze into that 5% !
|
I've been doing this since last summer and I am still highly motivated!!!
I am going to be one of the 5%! |
Heck yes, I am still going strong and I've been here for the second time around since the end of October.
|
Well, I've been around A LOT longer than six weeks, LOL! I have also become fairly good at maintaining. I am just ready to get this done (I know I said the same thing last year and although I did lose 15-20 pounds, I really wanted to be under 200 by 2010). :?:
Here's to becoming one of the 5% in 2010! :carrot: |
I am one of those newbies who started for the millionth time on 1/1/2010.....I am still here.. So far so good....I am upping my workout this week..I am hoping that will move my scale and keep me going!! :D You girls soo inspire me!!!
|
I noticed at the Y today that a lot of the "resolution" people weren't there. Seems like it's every Monday I notice a drop. I, on the other hand, ran an extra lap today. WooHoo 5% club!
|
I hate when "they" (media etc.) throw that statistic (3-5%) out there to discourage people.
That 5 percent is a WHOLE lot of people, and we can all be one of them. :) |
I don't know if I qualify to join the 5% club because I started October 2008 so I've been at this awhile. But I do know that I'm not quitting ever! This is it, this is my life.
|
Well, I won't be the January statistic as I began my final journey at the end of last July. So over 6 months in, I'm in it for the long haul.
But I will definitely be part of the 5% statistic, after all this hard work I'm NEVER going back this time. |
You know, one of the reasons I think a lot of people drop out around now is because this is the point that so many people plateau. I've been losing since September, but I took a break around the holidays and only lost 2 lbs between Thanksgiving and New Years (which was great, because I was amining for maintenance!). Anyhow, I've been back at it since around the first and I've has some good losses since then, but all of a sudden I've it a plateau and I'm even seeing an upward swing on the scale. Now, I was expecting this. I know it happens. But it takes a lot of self talk to remind myself that this is just a little upward/flat blip on the weight graph and that it will be headed back in the right direction soon. I can imagine how discouraging it would be for someone just starting out, thinking "I'm excecising, and starving myself, and depriving myself and I'm GAINING WEIGHT? What's the point?"
So anyhow, if any newbies are reading this, please keep the faith and keep doing what you're doing - or start reading here for ways to change up your program and break through. Make breaking your plateau a project, something for you to accomplish. So many of the amazing success stories here talk about plateaus and how common they are - those guys did it, and we can too. |
