Anyone try the shoes that claim to help tone?

  • I recently have been looking into the Reebok and sketchers shoes that claim to help tone you legs, butt exc.. I love the concept of it but don’t know if threes any stability to their claims or if they could support someone of my stature. Anyone have any experience with them yet? I would love to hear some feedback on them. Thanks
  • I have heard of these too and did a lot of reading on people's reviews about them. I actually would love a pair but I am scared I may be wasting money.

  • I have a pair, but not for that reason. I had plantar fasciitis and these shoes are awesome for that! Or at least my own feet thank me for them. I wear them almost exclusively.

    They were weird to walk in at first. I felt like an astronaut. And I remember my calves ached the first two days, so they must be toning, but again, that's not why I wear them. Now four months into wearing them all the time, I absolutely love them.

    My husband wears them. He wears them for his back. He has had no back pain since wearing these shoes.

    So yeah, I'd say they're a good purchase. I'm just not sure about the toning part. It's possible, but it's hard to know how much toning is going on under the layer of fat.
  • My husband's best friend manages a shoe store, and he HATES them, because they get so many returned (and they can't resell returns unless they show absolutely no wear at all, and they're almost never returned in a condition that can be resold). People come in complaining that the shoes made their legs hurt (of course they did, that's pretty much the point. You can't get exercise and toning, without feeling it).

    They've tried to explain it to customers before they buy them, but that hasn't seemed to help much.

    I'd just say be prepared for them to make your legs hurt until you get used to them.
  • I have not tried them yet, but I very much want to. I have read some great reviews. I have also read that there is a cheaper version that works just as well, better for some people. They are at k-mart and called therashoes. I have plans of going to get some as soon as I have the $.
  • I use the Fit Flops that claim the toning portion also. I have about 6 pairs of the Flops and 1 pair of the shoe that I use for slippers. My sister has feet problems and after she wore the Flops for awhile, her feet thank her. (she is on her feet 10-12 hrs/day). When i found the "slipper" version, i sent her a pair. She also loves the slippers.

    As far as toning, I don't notice, but they are the most comfortable flops i have ever worn!

  • I don't own a pair but know someone who has a pair of the "Fit Flops" and she wears them exclusively (when it's warm enough). She said they're very, very comfortable but haven't helped with toning anything.

  • Before my ankle injury, when I "just" had plantar fascitis, I wore them quite a bit and noticed the same thing as Eliana. They were sooooo comfy on my sore feet. However, I didn't really get the toning thing. I did notice that the flip flop style was really heavy and my shins were kind of sore from lifting the shoe as I walked. (If that makes sense?)

    After my ankle injury, I didn't have the stability anymore to walk in them. Too wobbly - even after PT.
  • I'm sorry - and no offense to anyone - but I find the commercials and ads for those shoes hysterical! I always think jeez here I am trying to eat right and exercise and all those skinny people had to do was put on a pair of shoes! Why am I doing this the hard way???
  • are we talking about MBTs here?
    I have plantar fasciitis too and wore MBTs exclusively for about a year. They did help the PF to calm down a lot, I can't say they helped with toning though. What did happen though was that I got an absolutely horrible ankle sprain wearing them - they have very little stability on the side of the shoe and when I was walking out of the door one day I turned to lock it, the side of the left shoe collapsed against the edge of the doormat outside, and I swear my ankle tendons nearly broke. It was agony I tell you, but more than that, it's been nearly a year now, and I can not regain the stability in that ankle PT, stability training and splints all aren't helping, and I can't walk or jog outside or on uneven ground without support any more.. all because of a stupid shoe.
    I've read plenty of other people have had similar injuries because of the MBTs as well. So, definitely not worth it in my opinion!
  • ah,.. just googled sketchers. They look pretty identical to the MBTs I was wearing.
