Dress Tailoring - OT

Good morning! I have a quick question for you. My husband and I are going on a cruise in May and I wanted to wear my wedding dress for the Captains Dinner but I think it will need to be taken in if I do. I am not a seamstress and living in a rural community I don't have a lot of resources, I am willing to take it someplace to be done when the time comes but I don't know if it can be altered. Maybe someone here can look at it and tell me if it is even worth trying? I know some things can't be altered much.

I hope this made sense!

Thanks!

Misty

Sure it can be done... but a little complicated. Do you sew ?

I'm no seamstress either, but it looks similar in style to a dress a friend of mine had as a bride's maid and she had major tailoring done to it because they couldn't get one in her size in time. I'm not sure how much yours will have to go in, and they aren't exactly the same dress either, but for what it's worth I think her's was taken in nearly 4 sizes. Just make sure you take it to a pro.

Your dress is gorgeous, btw.

No not at all... I think I sewed a button once. I will have to take it somewhere. Thank you for looking at it!

Thanks FitGirlyGirl! At least I know there is hope!

not a good with a thread either! you could find the local shop that sells prom/wedding dress shop and find out who does the alterations. that would be where I would start, then I might find the sewing machine store and ask there if someone does alteration...

pretty dress BTW

If you take it somewhere, they should be able to do it. You might also contact someone who specializes in dress reconstruction (ie, takes mom's or grandma's wedding dress and reshapes/sizes it for a daughter to wear for her wedding). My wedding dress was an 18W, I was a size 10 at my wedding, and my seamstress saved me (we had to take it in 4 times)

I don't know anything about sewing but I just wanted to say....Wow! What a gorgeous dress! Love the color.
