Body Fat percentage question...

Well, October was a slow month for me weight loss wise. After losing 10+ pounds per month for the first four months, this month I lost five.

But, I did notice that my body fat percentage went down, but I don't really know how to interpret that result.

In early September, my BF was 51% and now it's 47%. Both numbers seem crazy high, but at least the second was is lower.

I've also noticed a big boost in my fitness levels this month. I've been lap swimming consistently since May/June, but recently I've gone up from 30 to 45 minutes. I find I tire less easily and maintain a faster pace and I also had added in some treadmill workouts, now with some brief running intervals. The past two weeks or so, I'm really noticing a fitness difference-- harder workouts, faster recovery, and just a sense that I'm getting somewhere.

So, when the body fat percentage goes down, does that mean less fat, more muscle, or both? Did my weight loss slow just by normal ups and downs, or could I be gaining muscle?

I have not changed my diet at all.

I would think both your body fat percentage went down and is being "replaced" by muscle, which would account for the lower weight loss number. In any case, you are seeing remarkable improvement in your health with better endurance. Congrats!

Congrats on the 5 pounds. That's still a good loss, I would think the fat % has to do with your fitness level, perhaps retaining some water in your muscles as well. Do you track inches?
