Half Marathon!

  • Hi all, haven't been on here in quite a long time. I have a 11 month old, go to school part-time for nursing and work full time 3rd shift! Whew, if that isn't enough, I trained for most of the summer for a half marathon that I completed on Sunday.

I started my journey Jan 2005 at 324lbs I'm still not where I'd like to be, however, the process will always be a work in progress. I was a size 28W and am now in a 14 misses, so it's kinda like half of what I was!

I just wanted to share my little sucess of running a half marathon, in 2:22:33, as a little victory dance for me and, hopefully, encouragement to others out there who may be struggling. I know it's hard. Trust me. I did this all with healthy eating and healthy exercise. No drugs, no surgery, no crazy diet plans.

You can do anything you set your mind to do, but you have to do it for you. No one else. Achieving a healthy body is the one thing you need to be selfish about in you lives, that way you will be around for the people that matter most to you for a long time.
  • HEY! That sounds really terrific Congrats!!!
  • Good job! I would love to do a half marathon.
  • Great job! I did my first and only (so far) half marathon last Feb, and it was amazing! And the hardest thing I ever did. My time was right around yours! I've signed up for the next one but haven't trained at all really yet, I've got to get back in the saddle.
  • That is a huge accomplishment. Congrats!
  • WOW! The fact you did it while going to Nursing school and working full-time is amazing! Congrats on your hard earned success; you deserve it. Good luck with the LPN or RN program as well. You rock chickie!
  • Thank you for posting your inspirational reminder that this CAN be done and that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

I'm getting ready to do a 5K and a couple charity bike rides in October, and my goal right now is to do the Irongirl triathlon next summer. It feels so good to be able to start doing more active things.
  • Sara -
Congrats! I'm also a former 300+ runner. I haven't done a half yet I'm working up to do that in the spring, but I do have a 15k coming up next month.

Congrats on the fantastic loss and keeping it off for so long.
  • YOU ROCK!!!
  • Congratulations! A half marathon, especially with all your other distractions is amazing!
