Butt Movers #14

Time to get this booty shakin!

sakk 06-24-2002 11:32 AM

I'm With Ya!!

After my daughter & husband are done with karate tonight, I'm going to grab my walkman and hit to the street:) I have a mini gym, nordic track, and bike downstairs.... I need to start using them more often!!!! But for today, the walking is going to start:) I got my new walkman, and I've programmed a bunch of channels. Now I'm going to start making some tapes of my fave songs. I decided against the CD walkman for a number of reasons.... one, the size. Two, I really like having the radio. Three, this way I can make tapes of all my fave music, and walk to good mixes:)

csbutton 06-24-2002 11:59 AM

Gonna move with you.
I'm guessing I should get back to my old routine of 20 min a day of working out.

and...I'm going to get back to my 40+crunches a day. (I have one of those exercise balls that I love...just keep forgetting to use it, along with my really nice treadmill that's collecting dust behind me *LOL*)

PNG 2 06-24-2002 12:08 PM

blah, my treadmill died, lol, hubby is happy, he wants to get a Gazelle... and we stuck my exercise ball outside the other day, to be hosed off because the kids were playing on it and it was reallllly gross... and apparently, it blew away, or someone REALLY liked it... cuz it's gone :(

debbers 06-24-2002 09:33 PM

Did mine today - yay me!

I warmed up our treadmill again 2 weeks ago after 2 years in the garage - probably burned off a pound just from cleaning it! I couldn't do 10 minutes, but I'm already up to 20 3 times a week. When I get up to 30 minutes 4-5 times a week, I'm going to treat myself to a gym membership. Haven't been chipper enough to clean off the ab cruncher domathingie......yet.

Charbar 06-24-2002 10:31 PM

It's been so darn humid here I haven't done any exercise in almost a week. I have stayed active though :) I am moving more then I was this time last summer.

Do any of you notice that since you have lost some weight that the heat doesn't bother you as much?

Dana

Zap 06-24-2002 11:37 PM

My treadmill is a hunk of junk! I guess you get what you pay for lol so I'm about to give the sucker away to Goodwill or something and go in search of a better machine. I would love to get the Gazelle but I'm afraid my pocketbook wouldnt support it at the time being.

I have been slacking on my workouts so I want to get more involved with that. I think I burned myself out doing them everyday.. so I'm going to inch my way back into the routine slowly and just take it every other day for the time being.

Slimdown - Yup I can tell a huge diffrence.. I've only lost 21 pounds and I'm MUCH more active then I've been in years and the heat doesnt seem to bother me as it has in the past. Maybe I just got over my fear of sweat

Traci

PNG 2 06-25-2002 01:48 AM

I know what you mean about the Gazelle and the pocketbook...lol, that's why I'm sticking with my weights, my steps, and my videos... hehe, hubby wants to get it for the $15 trial, and give it back after the trials up... lol, he'd be tired of it by then anyway...

OK, not much for me today, but, not much is better than none, put me down for 20 mins with the weights... arms and legs :)

Charbar 06-25-2002 11:34 AM

stupid question:

what is a gazelle????

Jennelle 06-25-2002 11:43 AM

slimdown - Go to http://www.tony-little-gazelle.com/ and you'll see a picture of it. As soon as you see it, you'll recognize it. I know down here there is never a time when it's not being advertised on an informercial!

My record of workout equipment ownership isn't so great. I bought an exercise bike from Sears years ago. It ended up being a clothes rack, mostly. When we moved to Italy (hubby is retired Navy), the only place we could fit it in our apt. was on the porch. The sea air rusted it to bits.

Then I bought a treadmill from a friend for $50. It was a piece of poo-poo! The belt would get hot enough to feel through the bottom of my sneakers, and I wasn't THAT damn fat! I finally got rid of it when we moved here.

I have some Sports Illustrated Super-Shape-Up tapes that I used to use a lot, but I got bored with them. I also have the most BOOOORRRRRR----INNNNGGG exercise tape by some woman who was a Miss Canada in the early '80's...can't remember her name. I just bought four of The Firm workout tapes at Sam's Club...they were only $18 for the set! There's an arms tape, a legs tape, a daily abs tape, and a super-killer tape. I'm going to start with them once we come back from vacation.

I have Crunch Fitness tapes, they're fairly cheap, between 6 and 10 bucks each, and FUN, I have the tae bo, Cardio Groove, and Fat Blaster plus... plus a Step video that came with my step.... today, I think, I'll do..... Cardio Groove, been a while, and I love that one :D

SunDrop 06-25-2002 01:13 PM

I'm doing the exercise ball today. I have a 40 minute tape that is all ab ball work, i can't make it through the whole thing, I like that.

I m trying to alternate cardio with toning, take Saturday off and then we do a family hike on Sundays, I wear my 2 yo in a backpack, so it's strength training too!

I ordered a Total Gymesque machine on E-bay, it's new and had really great extensive feedback as being better than the Total gym. DH and I are tall so a longer backboard on it was the clincher. I should get it pretty soon (tomorrow maybe) my deal with myself was to get to 200 before I ordered one, and I Have!

Now I just have to really use it...

Oh. jenelle, the Firm tapes are super-effective, waatch it, you'll be sore!

Now everyone send my kid ~~nap vibes~~ so my son will sleep and I can exercise before DH comes home and we spend the afternoon assembling playground equipment at DD's new school.

That would be neat and tidy, and probably won't happen.

nasus40 06-25-2002 02:13 PM

Sundrop congrats for getting below 200 that was a huge mile stone for me

I did about 1 hour upperbody today with only 5 min on the elliptical. I hate cardio!!!

SunDrop 06-25-2002 02:25 PM

Nasus- You and I started out about the same huh?
I wish I was 180 right now!

I'm thinking about picking up the body for life book.

I have had this profound understanding dawn on me that if I exercise more I can stop obsessing about what food I eat. I'd rather sweat than feel such guilt over a cookie. I also have been reading nothing but great things about the affects of weight training on the female body. I'm only 30 but, boy I'd like to start protecting my bones now!

Funny when I grew up in the 80s, everyone was cardio crazy, AEROBICS, tiny thin arms and legs, no muscle. So, it's taken me awhile to adjust to the idea of lifting weights, but I'm getting there, big muscles means more calories burned with every waking moment.

This past week, I ate more carbs, I ate less fat and I ate about 200 calories more a day, and I worked out 6 days, and almost five pounds fell right off me, there is something to this.

nasus40 06-25-2002 02:37 PM

yes i love my workouts with the weights. the bfl is worth it check out his page www.bodyforlife.com it is truly inspiring I know those winners all took the eas concotions but ihave naturally big muscles so i donot need any!!! I just love the feel of my muscles and see then bulge when i flex. I must look a site all saggy in teh gut but flexing naked in the mirror!!

SunDrop 06-25-2002 08:00 PM

I've been cruising the website and lurking in BFL chats for a while, I rsearch for a long time before I do things, makes everyone around me nuts, I like to start as an "expert" hah hah.

So here's a question, maybe I should put it under the success area, but if I end up 125 pounds lighter than I once was, will i have tons of saggy skin? My belly, I'm noticing as it flattens that there is like a little skin apron over it, will exercise eventually make this go away, or is like surgery the only option? my legs and arms seem to be pretty tight still and don't ask me how it's possible but my only stretch marks are lower belly ones from my last pregnancy.

i'm not going to be modeling or anything but I would like to be able to wear a 2 piece agin at some point in my life, I'm already considering a little breast reduction lift and tuck when I get to 150, as i would like to be pretty falt for once.

BA99TJ 06-25-2002 08:31 PM

I walked one mile today in 25 minutes. But there were a LOT of hills. and I mean a LOT.

SunDrop 06-26-2002 10:35 AM

Go BethAnne!

Dh came home mid ball workout so I only got through about 20 minutes but then, we went for a hike!

It was about 2 miles ascending 500 feet, to this wonderful craggy pinacle- elevation 5800 feet, just beautiful.

Best of all 80 degrees at the house, 60 degrees on the trail. I swear i'm going to build a house up HIGH.

This but did not move yesterday as I had to build a total plumbing system in my basement so i can pee without it running directly into the floor. It took me about 7 hours and lots of sweat and tons of stress!!!

then today i did nothing as i had company (they came the very min i finished) till this morning and i had to run all day till now!!!

SunDrop 06-28-2002 09:49 AM

I'm still moving...
I did the whole 40 minute ab routine with th exercise ball yesterday and stayed On Program food wise, in fact without really trying I had only 12 grams of fat yesterday. So that would explain why am 3 pounds heavier today right:lol: ??

Nasus I read your plumbing story- I really admire you, plumbing stuff kind of scares me, I'm good with wiring though and I can network computers like noone's business!

Today, I am trying to eat more and get some pilates in.

DH bought me a used recumbent bike on the spur of the moment, we pick it up on Sunday. I'm sort of excited. I watch (guilty pleasure) Days of our Lives a few times a week, I'm going to set the bike up right in front of it and feel less guilty about watching my soap.

Our den is going to look like a gym with the Total Trainer arriving any moment and the bike and yoga props and exercise ball. I think I have talked DH into joining me in the weight training and he said again this morning that he knows that his decade of smoking needs to come to an end. He said he is starting to understand that it has to stop on a deeper level. I guess it's like that moment that I realized that I NEEDED to lose weight, I didn't just sort of idly want to.

I'm not looking forward to the weeks of short temper and lack of patience that will go along with quitting though.
I can remember when we first met thinking that watching him roll his own cigarettes was just so damn sexy, boy have things changed.

nasus40 06-28-2002 10:52 AM

I went to the gym today!!! i did a killer lower body work out and had to push after 2 days no exercise!! but i feel so much better today!

sundrop that is one area that scares me. more so than the plumbing so i will call onyou for advice when the time comes!!

Jen 06-28-2002 09:09 PM

Hi all. The one good thing that I did today was exercise. I biked 30 minutes on my recumbent bike and then had 2 walks, probably about 4 miles total.

Sundrop - about that saggy skin you are wondering about. It depends on how old you are and how much elasticity is left in your skin. Now this guy Fred, who had a website, www.onefatman.com, and popped in on us occasionally has lost about 170 lbs. He had consulted with a doctor about the saggy skin and the dr said that within 7 years it should all be reabsorbed. I'm assuming (he didn't give any other details) that because he is fairly young (early 30's I believe) that this is probably true. I don't think that it would apply to someone who was a lot older (50's, 60's). Also I think that you would have to have a very good metabolism for this to happen. It won't work if you just lose weight by dieting, you have to build muscle in order to increase your overall metabolic rate. FYI Fred decided not to wait that long and did have the surgery to remove the excess skin. I think too that there was a recent People magazine article about Carnie Wilson who had surgery to remove skin but I didn't read it.

Go to www.onephatman.com and click on journal if you want to see Fred's surgery after pics.

SunDrop 06-29-2002 08:11 AM

hey Jen!
Thanks for the information. I've lost 75 from my highest weight and other than some sag around my lower belly, I can't complain, but we'll see what another 50 does to me... can't wait to start weight training in earnest.

Do you like your recumbent bike? I'm getting mine today or tomorrow, I'm really excited. I was going to get a treadmill, but this seems like it might be more fun.

Nasus, I need a good lower body workout, I did precision toning pilates yesterday and I'm trying to Tae-bo today (unless my bike gets here). So do you go to a gym or workout at home?

Well, it's Saturday and that means family fun time, DD is a wreck because we are meeting her kindergarten teacher, Ms.Rebecca, for the first time today. She's been dressed since 6:30 LOL!

nasus40 06-29-2002 07:32 PM

OH did a killer upper body I think i did to much as i am still sore in my pecs. (hope DH does not have anything on his mind tonight)

lorelei1 07-03-2002 09:01 AM

Butt mover wanna be!

I have lost 50.7 so far (in 18 months) with 102 to go to get to my "ideal weight". So far exercise hasn't been part of it. I know I need to start exercising and for some reason I really want to!! ;) I know how good it is for blood pressure, your "good cholesterol", your bones, etc... but I really want to do it to BURN more calories. It seems I have hit the magic number (50 pounds) and it is encouraging me to try something else to get the weight off faster, so here I go!!
I have the Walkaerobics tapes by Leslie Sansone. I will do atleast one mile today, and report how much I walked. For me just one mile is good because it's better than what I was doing before..nothing! :)
wish me luck!!
lorelei
