Stopping being self-destructive with food

  • I have thought about how I use food like a buffer or medicator to have fat as a protective coating. So stopping the damage and eating responsibly is my goal. The way that helps me the most is talking about it and being accountable by writing down what Im eating. I think that the fitday site is a great tool to do this.
  • It is indeed. I use sparkpeople.com but I used to use fitday. I like the community aspect at spark.

but it is a great help either way.
  • Whatever works for you is great. I think the most important thing is coming to realization that you did and thinking about what can be done to fix it.
  • I'm a spark er too (though I lllooovvvee the community here at 3fc). It's a big deal to discover the emotional side of why we (I) stuff our faces, congratulations!
  • I have a little journal for writing down what I'm feeling that day and throughout the day for feelings and I use sparkpeople to track the calories and I have been tooling around with my fitday account. I've had all these accounts for over 4 years and I feel like I'm finally beneting. Hold ourselves accountable is the best way to succeed. Good luck! We are hear for you too!
  • I didn't like keeping track of calories at first. I went through a couple of different online tracking sites and decided I like The Daily Plate. It just seemed so tedious at first, but as I got used to it, I maneuvered much more quickly. I also started using the weight graph and it is cool to see it going in the right direction!

I think the accountability is something that is critical to have. I know that I can easily convince myself that I haven't had as many calories unless I have to document them. It makes you think about what you are eating, and do you really want to have to do a search for nachos, donuts, cookies, etc!! Even portion size is documented, so you can't fudge too much!
  • What a great thought... I've been thinking about this myself lately. Tracking things is very helpful... It really keeps things in perspective. I use Fitday everyday to track my calories.
  • I also have started fitday again at the weekend. I always do it on/off, cannot be bothered to fill it in all the time. But ever so often, when I feel I am not taking as good care of myself as I should, I start doing it again for a while, which really helps.

I love the fact that the programme shows you whether you are getting all your vits and minerals.

  • I do the opposite, I plan what I will eat and tend to stick to that making meal plans up to two weeks in advance. If I deviate I am making a choice and I have to face the emotional consequences of that. I end up where I am today, talking myself through a "mini-binge" and knowing I have to look in the mirror and chose real change, real confrontation of what I feel there or just be fat :P
