Some new short term motivation...

Well, y'all....I found out I am having a hysterectomy in about a month.

I've been doing some reading, and many patients say that getting arms and legs stronger is a great idea. I'm having an abdominal hysterectomy and won't be able to use my core to help me sit up and move. Plus, losing a few more pounds before then couldn't hurt things either....

So, my life will be really interesting this summer.....

Oh babe I'm sorry :( Major abdominal surgery bites (I've had three c-sections and a hernia repair) Strengthening the rest of your body will certainly be very helpful in your recovery. Don't forget to bring someone in to help and get LOTS of rest.

Will do Tam...I've got some great friends that are already arranging to help me! :) Any helpful hints?

Yes!

Make sure to switch sides OFTEN during the night when you sleep. If you do not than you will wake up very very stiff.

Keep up on your pain meds. This is VERY important. Don`t be a hero. Dope yourself up my friend.

When getting out of bed: swing your legs over the edge and while lying on your side push yourself up with your ARMS. Do not use your tummy muscles.

walking hunched over for the first week helps.

Don`t sit on squishy couches or chairs. If you do, get help to get up.

Getting into cars: back in, sit down THEN swing your legs in.

Try not to laugh. Seriously. It hurts.

hmmm... I`ll think of more I`m sure and update this post ;)

Thanks y'all....I've still got about 4 weeks to get an action plan together and get some more strength. Thanks for all your support.

Hi Jen, I've had 4 abdominal surgeries, including a hysterectomy. My biggest advice....don't try to do too much too soon. Give your body time to heal. I'll PM you with some additional suggestions.

Thanks everyone....

Today I am a little shaky and on the verge of tears...I think it is hitting me how serious my situation is. So, I am researching my surgeon to check his credentials so that I can know I've got a great team of people to get me through this.

I KNOW I've got awesome 3FC friends to help me through! :)
