I am also a night-snacker! In the past, it's always been my downfall...I can be fine all morning/afternoon..but once 7:00pm rolls around, I just can't stop!
What works for me is eating dinner later...usually around 7:30 or 8:00. I usually go to bed between 11:30 and midnight, so it may not be the best thing for someone who goes to bed earlier. But, I also see nothing wrong with having a bedtime snack planned too! I also eat a snack (usually around 10:30) and it's my only sweet treat of the day...a Skinny Cow ice cream bar or a Weight Watcher cookie, or even just a piece of dark chocolate. Because, I'm not really hungry at that time, there is just some defective part of my brain that says, "It's dark out...put something in your mouth!" Having this treat planned helps to shut that little voice up! It's all about planning for me. If I know I'm going to be getting a snack at 10:30 or eating dinner at 7:30, then I'm not going to be raiding the pantry looking for something...I'm just watching the clock, lol. |
I eat as well. If i'm hungry (truly hungry and not just bored or anxious).... i will eat. Just make good choices, drink some water too. I find some herbal tea (vanilla mocha or chai) with 1/3 cup skim milk and a few drops of Stevia will really help settle me down too.

try and eat your meal as slow as you can , i find if i take my time even tho im starving im left more satisfied after my meal and not wanting to raid the fridge 5 mins later .............in which it has happened so i know where ya coming from when you say some nights you feel xtra hungary ;)

Oops, didn't mean to imply that there was something inherently wrong with eating after dinner, just to suggest that distracting yourself with tea and knitting can help.

My 'trick', if you wish to call it like that, is to reduce the amount of food I eat for dinner and eat the rest as a snack around 10 or 11 pm, it works fine with me. I think if you'd like to apply it you could leave the dessert or some fruit for later.
