Default Fit Day Help: Need help figuring calories of a homeade dish

Im logging my food on Fitday. I made a pot of Leek & Potato soup and am wondering if I am figuring this up correctly.

Calories for whole pot: 879
I measured it and it has 4.5 one cup servings.

In fitday, I have one serving as 879 calories (the whole pot). And when I go to put in how many servings I am eating (one cup) I divide one by 4.5. Should this give me the calories per one cup serving? I get .2 for an answer.

It doesnt seem right. Help!!!!

OK I must be having a bad math day or something, because I am confused by this!! lol But if you measure 1/2 a cup of the soup, (879 / 9), you get 98 calories. So a full one cup serving is 195 calories. To get 195 calories, you would need to enter .22 of a serving. HTH!

You're right the first time - 1/4.5 = .22, and that comes out at 195 calories. (195.333333333333333)
Multiply it back to check - 195 per portion times 4.5 portions = 877.5

I don't know if I am doing it right, but this is what I do:
(I am not on my computer with FitDay, so I hope I remember it all right.)

Go to add new food then add all my ingredients and measurements for those ingredients in the ingredients tab. Then when I go to the serving size, I can tell it 1 cup or 1 oz and get the info on the serving size I will eat. Just remember if you enter your ingredients in lbs or ozs that is how your servings should be entered. For example, I can't make a meatloaf recipe with 1 lb of meat then enter 1 cup serving.

Play with it and see if it works

mtnheart - My fitday doesn't have an ingredient tab - are you using the PC version maybe?

I always have to go to sparkpeople to be able to add ingredients and then tell it how many servings. Here is the link http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp DollyR showed me this and it has been a real lifesaver!
