Really OT - Crazy CLEANING!

OK I had to see these for myself!!! My friends own a rental property (rent to university student -- ewwww!!!) and as her hubby was away, I helped her to clean out a few units.

Well, besides the regular disgusting stuff LOL which cleaned up pretty easy, there was soap scum in the tub that sand blasting wouldn't take off!! there was a drip in the bathroom sink that left a rust stain on the porcelain, and the tub caulking was beyond dingey...

she had magic tricks!!!

#1 Clorox Bleach Pen -- draw it like a marker over caulk lines - next day BOOM sparkling white!!!

#2 A cheap pumice stone (wet) gently rubbed on the rust stain - GONE!

#3 The craziest one!!! the soap scum??? Unloaded a can of no-fume OVEN CLEANER all over it, waited a few hours, gently scrubbed and it looks newer than MY tub!!!

I thought I'd pass these along in case you're ever presented with dire grunge situations :D

Hey, was the tub a real porcelain tub or a plastic one? Thats a great idea...

I can always use cleaning tips. I use Clorox Bleach Pen often and can vouch for it. I have never tried OVEN CLEANER for soap scum but will probably give that a try.

Thanks!

Trazey..I am totally loving the bleach pen idea...I am trying that RIGHT NOW my friend...I usually pay a company $150 to do my grout....this may keep me from having them here

Sweet Thanks <3

okay, have the pen on one strip of grout now..how long do I leave it on...how do I remove?

I have done it by hand a few years back...I used Scrubbing Bubbles..it worked beautifully and then I sealed it but man, was it a lot of work

That BAM stuff works so well- I used that on my tub that was so dingy I'd scrub and scrub. I put it on and walked away and when I came back the tub was noticeably better. All I had to do was wipe it clean!

the oven cleaner was on a PORCELAIN tub - not sure about the fibreglass, but she says she uses it on every tub they have. It was kind of the coolest thing i've ever seen! a few hours later and just some hot water and a nylon stiff scrub brush, scrub scrub and a bucket of water thrown on it and voila!

AND THEN!!! the other neat part was to avoid soap scum at all in the first place, she sprayed RainX on it! The stuff for your windshield to make water bead off it??? she said it keeps the scum from settling but she hadn't done it to this particular tub! nifty!

the Bleach pen on the caulking - we left it over night and in the morning it was blinding white LOL and then we just scrubbed it a bit with regular cleaner and rinsed - so sparkly !

I love the bleach pen idea. What a great thought for one of the nastiest cleaning jobs around. Thank you so much for sharing!

I'll have to try the other ones, too!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this!

We are buying our first house and I REFUSE to get stiffed on my lease deposit on my apt! I love the clorox pen idea! I would never think to do that, but it sounds perfect!

Neat! Thanks for the tips!!!!

I am soooo testing this. My bathroom tub and tile is a sore spot with me. I can't wait to test this out!!!

OK one more silly one that i thought was too stupid -- but apparently there's a reason for it!

icky rusty bits in the toilet!! I've used good old bleach before and it worked just fine -- but apparently people with septic systems are supposed to take it easy on that stuff?? it can kill the good bacteria i guess...so for those folks...

drop 2 or 3 fizzing denture tablets in the toilet and leave it over night!!! how fun is that??? I did it just to be cheeky -- sorry for stealing your tablets mom heheheheh works the same as bleach!

ok i'm done with her crazy tips!!

I wonder if that makes it slippery though.

I used to clean apartments between moves, and I learned that a little oven cleaner can pretty much clean up any grimy, scummy, filmy layers in any room of the house. It's not the healthiest thing (be sure to ventilate well when you do it), so use sparingly.
