When it gets warmer...

...I'm going to try walking to the grocery store a couple times a week.

What will you do when it warms up?

It's not that we can't do things now. Like I don't care about the cold, I just throw on a jacket and gloves and it's all good (and it's not 30 below here) but the icy sidewalks/streets make walking hazardous. I'm really looking forward to walking to as many places as possible this spring.

junebug41 01-18-2009 05:06 PM

Hike! I can't wait to hike again! Just grab the dog, my camelback and maybe my husband and run to the mountains. It's in the 60's in Denver right now, but I know the trails are all cold and nasty so I have to wait until later in the spring :(

cfmama 01-18-2009 05:11 PM

I cannot wait to start agility training with my pup and my NEW pup (coming end of March!) and be more in shape to do it!

mazza 01-18-2009 05:13 PM

I'll flip this over to suit my geographical positioning :D

When it gets colder.... I want to find an eco-friendly way of heating my house.

Beautiful Ace 01-18-2009 05:17 PM

When it warms up I would like to go walking with friends occasionally. Of maybe even by myself. I'll have to have my mom drop me off somewhere though, we live right off highway and I'm not walking on that badboy.

nelie 01-18-2009 05:18 PM

Definitely hike!!
Also I want to start my running program again. Once the days got shorter and colder, it was very difficult to do.

2ndChance09 01-18-2009 05:19 PM

When it warms up I am going to take lots of walks by the river with my two little girls. I did that almost everyday last spring and summer and it was wonderful!

luvja 01-18-2009 05:50 PM

I can't wait to start walking again once the snow melts!

TJFitnessDiva 01-18-2009 05:53 PM

I never stop doing my outdoor activities but then again we have a mild winter ;) Now when summer hits ask me this question because the heat plus the humidity = a miserable girl lol

gumboot 01-18-2009 05:53 PM

Hiking and biking. My kids love doing both with me and I love the one on one time with them. This year though I look forward to tackling more difficult hikes. Can't wait!
There are alot of all season hikes around here but the slopes get so slippery and muddy this time of year so I will wait until the spring when things dry out a bit.

Trazey34 01-18-2009 05:58 PM

ha i'm such a weather-whiner!!! it's too hot, it's too cold, so there's about 3 days a year i actually WANT to walk outside LOL So i'm very happy our city built a ginormous arena, and it's open 7 days /week for people to walk! toasty in the winter, cool in the summer! and they give you a pedometer to use if you want, or they have 'trails' mapped out for a mile, 2 or 3 miles, etc., and a 'blitz' in the middle of running up and down the stadium steps -- WOW i felt like ROCKY the first time i did the smallll one!! i'm working my way up to medium! whooo!

Daimere 01-18-2009 06:00 PM

Convince my boyfriend to stroll along the block with me

Hyacinth 01-18-2009 06:04 PM

I moved to a neighborhood that has a lot of outdoor recreational activities, so I will be hiking/walking, swimming, hopefully boating (if I can find an inexpensive canoe or boat), and biking. I walk a little in the winter, but not like I do in the summer. It's pretty cold and my sidewalk doesn't get plowed in the winter (and the street is kinda busy). I do try to get around the block a couple of times a week, more for the sunlight than exercise.

H8cake 01-18-2009 06:52 PM

I'm trying to get in as much time exercising outside now while it's nice out. We have super hot summers here and the only thing I'll do then is swim. I'm hoping we'll have a pool of our own by summer, but if not I'll be heading to the lake. I'm so thankful for my treadmill and exercise bike in the summer, inside with air conditioning!

Randi 01-18-2009 07:00 PM

When it gets warmer I am definitely going to take my cardio outside and I want to do more hiking. We used to do a lot of hiking and it was amazing some of the hikes we went on - I want to go back to what we used to do.

howie6267 01-18-2009 07:03 PM

I will ride my bike when it warms up. But I don't stop just because of the cold I still walk 3 miles a day. I just bundle up. Heck I know I never once thought about the cold when I was a kid. Why start now at 41.

Hyacinth 01-18-2009 07:09 PM

Good point, Howie ... children don't think at all about the cold, they just dress warmer (or Mom makes them, anyway).

CeCeLee 01-18-2009 08:10 PM

Ugh, summer. I would love to go hiking, but we don't have hiking trails without alligators or snakes...gross. And it's too hot. I'm just going to enjoy the mild winter and get as much work done now :).

Maybe swimming?

foxxy511 01-18-2009 08:42 PM

I want to go to the park and play frisbee and baseball!

Also, when it warms up, I want to get cute new pedal pushers and bermuda shorts in those fun plaid colors. The last time I wore anything other than jeans in the summer was in my freshman year of high school! I can't wait to wear cute summer clothes!!!

nelie 01-18-2009 08:50 PM

We've been walking lately except on Friday when the temps were down in the single digits with windchill making it below zero. I normally walk my pups everyday, snow, cold, etc but they weren't too happy with the cold so they didn't get a walk. They also don't like when its raining, they are fine with a slight sprinkle but anything beyond that, they won't walk in.

I grew up in a warm weather climate though so I didn't know what cold was when I was a kid :)

FB 01-18-2009 10:18 PM

I'll ride my bike until the tires go bald. Ah! Nothing like life whizzing by at 20+ mph fueled by leg power.

djay 01-18-2009 10:24 PM

There is a park next door to my house with a lovely trail around a small duck filled lake. My dogs love when I take them there to walk. We go every day when it is warm outsid! I can't wait...and neither can they!

Ookpik 01-19-2009 12:00 AM

I'm looking forward to jogging again. And I plan on signing up for softball this Summer...I had to miss last year because I had surgery.

nicki rose98 01-19-2009 12:11 AM

Ugh. I'm dreading the warmth. I HATE THE SUMMER. I will probably do nothing different and keep doing all my exercises in the gym. I do like swimming though, so I'll probably do some more of that.

xJox 01-19-2009 12:34 AM

Walk outside. The treadmill drives me insane. It is sooooo borin.

lalique 01-19-2009 01:44 AM

Its starts getting really nice here around the end of May. By then I hope to be down to around 188 (which means I need to lose about 54 pounds, but I'm really hopeful!) - And be in much better shape, so that I can take long walks, and hikes with my boyfriend (he really loves hiking), and not be out of breath or feeling faint lol...

S.A.S.H 01-19-2009 07:49 AM

Well I cant do anything out in the cold because of my asthma...so I will be happy to be back outside again! I would love to learn to canoe!

irishsarah 01-19-2009 09:18 AM

I hate being too hot too, but when the weather warms up, I will walk to the playground with my boys and take them down the valley more. :)

GirlyGirlSebas 01-19-2009 09:23 AM

Saturday morning hikes at the local parks and I want to drag Hubby out for a daily neighborhood walk.

SwimGirl 01-19-2009 09:25 AM

I'm celebrating the fact that I'm no longer snowed in!! It was 4 HORRIBLE weeks, now I can go grocery shopping, go to movies, see friends who don't live right next to me... life is great! As for activities outside? I don't really walk in my neighbourhood after my bear incident, but when all this darn snow is gone I will definitely be hitting a running clinic to prepare for the 12km I do every year in March!

seashell 01-19-2009 09:28 AM

I'll be hiking again everyday. It's too cold now, and the trails are icy, so I've traded hiking for dancing this winter. I miss the sound of the birds and the smell of the wind through the trees.

Kae 01-19-2009 09:53 AM

Well, I live in Minnesota so dreaming about Spring/ Summer is always on my mind this time of year...

When it gets warmer I look forward to biking, gardening, and swimming.

hautbois 01-19-2009 11:40 AM

I'll be taking the kids to the park and for walks outside, like last summer. I am looking forward to a change of scenery. My treadmill is in the basement and it's not a pretty basement. :)

SnowboundChick 01-19-2009 11:50 AM

It warmed right up but now I"m in the City waiting for my son to have his surgery but when we get home I"ll be out walking and taking my boys sledding. We had 4 weeks of -40 C and colder. Hiking as well, I'll be getting my brother out with me again to hike the Dome, we started it before the cold spell and only got 2 hikes in. I can't wait to get home now but we'll be walking as much around town here before the surgery tomorrow.

freshmanweightorbust 01-19-2009 12:08 PM

Absolutely go walking outside more; I despise the treadmill. Also, I'll start swimming with my workout buddy, at the pool at her apartment complex. All the places around here with indoor pools are a bit pricey for the memberships. I can't afford $125 up front and $45/month after that for stuff I can work out for myself at home/her place.

Swimming is really where it's at, as far as losing weight and building up endurance, so they tell me. My younger siblingas are in swimming clubs and swim about ten hours per week, and they're both as skinny as rails and eat constantly.

JulieJ08 01-19-2009 12:08 PM

"When it gets warmer" around here means when it's uncomfortable to run even before dawn. Not looking forward to that. But I'll be doing it anyway :)
