Smile New Year's Resolutions for 2009

A friend of mine asked me, "Why do you make resolutions?" For me, whether I admit it or not, I make a resolution. Every new year is full of possibilities for me and there is something I want to accomplish. If I say it out loud, write it down or am otherwise accountable, I am more likely to work towards acheiving it. Heck, for me, I don't even care if I succeed, just as long as I tried.

Love them or hate them -- you can post them here. I will periodically bring this thread back to life so we can see how we're doing throughout the year.

If you're going to post a resolution, I recommend making them specific and measurable. Not just the resolution "To get healthier." How do you define healthy? How are you going to achieve that goal? So it might be "To lower my cholestrol my 30 points by cutting out transfats entirely and walking 3 times a week." See the difference? (and feel free to ignore me if you want, I won't be offended!).

Resolutions for 2009:
1. Spend three hours a week writing. Three. Solid. Hours. This does not mean blogging, Jessica.
2. Continue indoor climbing and climb at least once outside this year.
3. Keep using weightwatchers and get below 200 this year.
4. Walk/Hike twice a week with the Cute Boyfriend.
5. Complete my grad school application.

I resolve to take one day at a time, and be happy that I have that day.

Good thinking, Jessica. OK, here goes.

1) Get to the gym at least 3 and preferably 4 times a week. Yes, this does include rainy days.

2) Complete c25K. I've started this about 4 times now and given up. Not this time.

3) Get below 100kg/221 pounds. I'd like to say get below 200 pounds, but I'm going to be conservative here.

4) Cook at least 13 nights per fortnight. I've gotten out of the habit of this and have been relying on fast food for too long.

5) Save for my trip to Australia in October/November. I want some money to buy new, smaller clothes while I'm there. Oh, and go to the theatre a couple of times. One can't shop all the time, you know!

Good luck with the grad school application Jessica! I know from experience that those things can be a pain in the rear.

I never make resolutions because I don't have much confidence that I'll succeed, but I'm feeling like 2009 is going to be my year!

1) Cut waaaay back on my procrastination. I want to get stuff done early and not be scrambling around at the last minute!

2) Get A's and B's in my classes (preferably A's though ) Hopefully if I follow through with my first resolution, this second resolution will happen naturally, haha.

3) Apply for substitute teaching and quit my dead-end retail job.

4) Drink more green tea instead of sugary fruit drinks.

5) Reach my goal weight (or close to!) by my friend's wedding in September by sticking with WW and continuing my "Go three days, rest one day" gym plan.

6) Try something NEW every week! Whether it be a new vegetable, exercise activity, or even nail polish color...

Whoo...that's a lot...I must be feeling ambitious tonight, haha! But, I have never had more confidence in myself than I do now...it's gonna be a great year!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Alright I'll list some resolutions, I've never accopmlished any in the past so this is going to be a challenge, but a needed one. Posting them again in the future is a wonderful idea, I tend to trot along in life and forget about what I wanted to do in the first place.
1. Be at least 150 by this time next year.
2. Stop being pessimistic and negative.
3. Love my life along the way, and have fun.
4. Learn to appreciate who I am, and that I can achieve anything if I really want to.
Happy New Year everyone, and best wishes for 2009!

My 2009 goals:

(1) Lose 100 lbs by participating in the online BL competitions and completing the YMCA's BL class then using Dr. H's fat loss plan.

(2) Complete Nanowrimo (a writing self-competition held every November) by starting a daily writing habit.

(3) Run one mile by finishing on of the C25K programs, even if I have to go very slowly.

(4) Face my financial fears and get things in order: a real budget and a real plan for getting out of debt and automating everything as much as possible.

(5) Work through Dan Allender's workbooks for the Healing Path and Writing Your Story.

(6) Start having at least once a month "just you and me" dates with my daughters to strengthen our relationships.

Seriously, Dave Ramsey. He is the best financial man ever. He has been there, done that, and gotten more than a t-shirt. I listen to his free podcasts and he is full of just so much knowledge. You also realize that people are worse off than you and it gives you motivation to get your whole life not just your finances in order.

Please do not be discouraged when you make budgets and they don't work for the first few months. It takes awhile to make and tweak a realistic budget. You can do it!
