I have a personal goal that I am trying for. I love to swim and my gym has a big pool I longingly look at everyday. I promised myself that when I reach 220lbs I would hit the pool. So here is my question. Does anyone else have a personal workout related goal?
Z~
I definitely have workout goals! My biggest one is I want to be able to run three miles in thirty minutes. More short term, I'm working through C25K, W3 currently, and trying to exercise at least five times, preferably six a week.
Honestly, my workout goals matter more to me than my weight goals do!
Yes, I would like to become a runner. I'm waiting till I'm about 200-220 though. I don't feel comfortable bouncing all around and dont want to over stress my joints. Right now I do cardio aerobics (less mills classes) or elliptical. The other thing is that I'd like to continue increasing the amount of weights I use in resistance training. Right now for example, I'm doing BodyPump class and using 15 kilos for squats track. I'd like to be at aplace where I can manage say 20 or 25 kilos. I love the feeling of pure strength from the BodyPump classes.

Heh. I'm not a runner and I have no desire to become one in the sense of someone who runs daily or runs long distances. BUT.
My goal for 2009 is to run in the Purple Stride 5k to benefit PanCan (pancreatic cancer research) in honor of a very dear friend of mine who was diagnosed this year.
So ... for me, running (which I don't like to do) is a huge goal of mine and a way I can really make a sacrifice to honor him. I don't need to win - I just need to finish.

My trainer and I are going for figure contest physiques in 2009 (not she-men - supergirls).
Although neither one of us in inclined to fake bake, don a bikini and high heels and step before an audience we're training for the bod and will work hardcore on our bodyfat percentages. We'll enter a contest for the pressure but will probably chicken out last minute before we hit the stage, we agreed on that!
I'd also like to do a 100 mile bike ride early spring 2009.
Location: Lyin' in a puddle of sweat on the floor.

My fitness goal for 2009 is to run the Sound to Narrows fun run in Tacoma, WA. It's a 12K, and has a few killer hills. Since even walking hills like that would have left me gasping for breath a year ago, my big goal is to run/jog the whole distance, without having to walk. I'm about the world's slowest runner, but luckily they have a walking division, too, so I hope I won't have to worry about being the last one in!
I'm curious, why 220 to hit the pool? Is that a significant number for some reason? Yes I am a nosey person.
That was the last weight I actually swam at. It has more to do with personal vanity (embarrassment) than anything else.

Mine too! I have several and on the days I want to say 'I'll skip the gym today' It's the goals that I have set for my self that get me in there.

Running for your friend is way cool! I think that training for a benefit 5k is an awesome goal. It can be a big help when you hit the last kilometer if you could say '...it's for the kids!' (or whomever)
In 2009, I am going to do a sprint distance triathlon! I can't believe it, but my sister and I have already picked out the one we are going to do and have our training schedules set. Scary stuff, but I know I can do it!

I live near a natural convergence of nature trails and hot springs, so my goal this year is to be able/to hike a 10 mile stretch of the Bandelier national park and not feel like I'm going to die by the end of it.
It's going to be really interesting 'cause I also live a mile above sea level, goooo less oxygen!

But dood....swimming is such a great low impact workout. It will get you to 220 faster. And it's a gym. Everyone there is either working on changing or at a bare minimum maintaining what they have achieved. Maybe try a time when few people are there?
Getting off my now.
My goal for next year is probably to get my personal trainer certification, I also wanna try a half century bike ride.
This year it was a 5K - mission accomplished on T-Day.
