I'm Cured!!! But, Of What???

  • I just got out of the shower....checking all the bits and parts for changes...
There is a huge change in my face. And it's not just the loss of chub.

When I started eating healthy and excersising...I wasn't just fat...My skin was literally grey...ashey looking. I always looked like my mascara was smeared all around my eyes. I couldn't cover the dark circles. I'm 47...I easily looked 57. The scarey thing was a friend of mine looked the same way before he had a massive heart attack.

I'm sure the regular excersise is largly responsible for the rosey glow I have now...but the transformation is striking. I have no discoloration around my eyes at all now. I now look my age. I have turned back the clock 10 years in 6 months!

So my question...What caused the ashey skin color and dark circles. What am I cured of...Cause it sure looks like a full recovery to me!
  • Wow! You should be so proud of yourself!
I'm not a doctor but I would assume you are on the right path thinking you were headed for a heart attack. Your heart was working so much harder to pump the blood. Perhaps your arteries are also much healthier with much less cholesterol? Keep up the great work!
  • I don't know what caused this, but I'm hugely excited! I hope the same thing happens for me. I've inherited horrible eye circles that get worse as I age. I'm now 44 and I always look tired. Hopefully, getting back on-plan and excercising will give me your same awesome results.
  • I have what looks like black eyes all the time too. I don't think it's necessarily a sign of heart attack because my blood pressure and cholesterol levels always thrill my doctors to no end.

Dang I hope mine go away too. I went into a classroom for a consultation the other day and one of the 2nd graders said "Whoa! How'd you get TWO black eyes!"
  • I'm sure eating healthy and exercising made a difference.

When you eat badly, your body suffers from a lack of nutrition. Not in a "starving to death" sense, but in the sense that there are nutrients that you need and don't get when you don't eat healthily. These can show up in all kinds of ways - bad skin, dark circles under your eyes, weak hair and nails, the whites of your eyes can become yellowed, your teeth can become weak, your gums can become sensitive, etc. There are all kinds of deficiencies that can result in an overall lackluster appearance. They won't (immediately) impact your health, but they show up in physical ways.

Exercise is the same. When you exercise, you strengthen bones and muscles. But you also increase the circulation ALL over your body. Not just to muscles and organs, but to your skin. You sweat and the sweat carries away minor impurities on your skin. Your heart rate goes up and you flush - that flush is the tiny capillaries in your skin opening up and having fresh, clean, oxygen pure blood flow through them.

All of these things can improve how you look - your skin can clear up, your nails become stronger, your hair becomes stronger and shinier, the whites of your eyes can develop a healthy blue-white clarity, etc.

Being healthy - eating well and exercising - SHOWS. Not just in weight loss, but in how you look.

  • That's exciting! I read in another post last week that someone felt that they looked 10 years older after losing weight. I'm glad to hear the opposite. I would think that water retention, lack of nutrients and bad circulation would cause all of those things. I can't stand meat, but started eating it more often as part of my plan (crack the fath-loss code) and I have rosey cheeks now. I think it's because I'm no longer anemic
  • I have been doing a lot of research about hyperpigmentation because I have skin discoloration in large patches on my inner/upper thighs and a few other areas. Of course part of my issues stem from Eczema and other allergy issues, but my big patches of skin discoloration have been getting better as the pounds go off. I'm not as grey either! LOL!

I read that other people have the same issues especially if they are overweight or obese. Getting that blood circulating and eating well is key I think to getting our skin back!
