Rollerblading?
I have decided that it's time for YET ANOTHER new exercise. Have you ever met someone who was sooooo ADD when it comes to exercise? :)
I've decided to take up rollerblading! Do you know there are many health benefits to rollerblading? Improve Balance and Coordination
Now, does anyone rollerblade? Any advice? Anything that you learned that would help a beginner like me? What's the hardest part? Do you still rollerblade? |
Haha. I *have* rollerblades. They're years old. I was terrible at it, but never took lessons or practiced. I would like to learn someday.
|
I have rollerbalded and it is hard work BUT FUN .....i had no idea the calories that are burned, thanks!:smug:
|
I used to rollerblade every where esp when I lived on campus at LSU :) I stopped rollerblading after we moved back to LA from FL and miss it! Dirt roads and skates don't mix lol
My advice for a newbie? Don't take on hills or steps without learning how to use the brake ;) Keep your knees bent too or you can fall easy esp when first learning! |
More power to you! Have fun!! I think it's great that you are always finding new ways to exercise.
Myself, I will wait until I have some weight off and don't fear breaking my ankles by sheer pressure  |
ooooh that sounds like fun! I have a pair of rollerblades that I really tried with but I was a lot heavier then. Maybe I'll get them out and see if I can do better now. Let us know how it goes. we need a rollerblading smilie!

Yeah--fall FORWARD. I fell at Mission Bay--backward--and tore up my spinal ligaments. I healed, but I'm not getting back on the things. Are you a size 10? I've got a good, gently used pair to sell you if you are. ;)

I tried roller blading ONCE:) LOL!! Not for me:) I should've known it would be a disaster, as I was never able to learn to roller skate either! I have no balance at all. Totally clumsy:)
|
I've gone rollerblading, like others I only went once.. but this is mostly because there isn't anywhere near where I live to go.. too many hills! But I LOVED LOVED it!!! I also LOVE skating though, so that might have something to do with it. Turns out figure skating and rollerblading are very similar, and I figured skated until I was 18.
I went figure skating the other day for the first time since I was 18, it was GREAT! Hard to get back into it, but so much fun! Make sure you use all the necessary protection, wrist guards (!!!), knee pads, and elbow pads. And have fun!! -Aimee |
Lol cute thread! When I was much thinner and in like jr high I used to roller blade at my house and play basketball at the same time! Maybe I could take it up again :)
|
I'd probably end up in traction at the hospital if I tried that, butterflygurl!!
|
*sigh* i used to Rollerblade when i was a youngin i LOVED it .. maybe i should get back into it .
|
I think I'm 54 and sure to break a hip, but good for you!
|
Loved rollerblading when I did it. Couple of things to remember:
1) If you have skated before, it should come naturally for you. Of note, remember to be lose, keep your knees bent and fall foward if you have to. 2) Wear at a MINIMUM knee pads and wrist guards. Wrist guards saved me one time from fracturing both of my arms when I had a rather spectacular fall 3) If you are going to purchase your own blades, really try them out in the store. When I bought mine (a few years ago) there were two types of brake systems. |
ha I'm still so heavy i'd take one glide in rollerblades and squish them down into SHOES heheheh
ok that's making me laugh so hard LOL |
