How long do you keep your clothes that don't fit anymore?
Be honest please! I've lost 67 lbs, some clothes I still wear ( tshirts for excersizing ) but some of my pants really hang on me now. There still in great shape tho, would you box them up and store them somewhere "just in case" just give them to someone who needs them? Something else?
Note* I'm not planning on ever wearing these clothes again....but something in me is saying hang onto them.
I got rid of all of my clothes I can't fit into on freecycle I know I could have gotten money back by doing a garage sale or something but it was too much of a hassle for me. I just gave away 8 huge bags of clothes! *cry*
This is the way I look at it....if my clothes start to get to snug it would be a push to get my butt in gear instead of slipping on my "just in case" pants

I'm with RomanceDiva...I feel like if you throw out all your bigger clothes, and start to gain weight, you have that to push you to lose those few lbs. You don't want to be stranded, gaining weight, and naked!!
I did keep one pair of pants to compare them when I hit my goal but those are at my aunt's house in her attic...I made her promise to keep them so if I do hit a plateau & get all bummed plus gain that I won't have easy access to them
I get rid of the clothes as soon as they no longer fit. I give some to friends, donate others to thrift stores and will count them as a deductible come April 15th. I've rid myself of crazy amounts of clothes this year. Carloads, seriously. I'm a total clothes whore.
I did keep one pair of pants as a reminder and to help visualize where I'm coming from.
I keep two things from my highest weight. and stuff from the size or two above where I am now. I've donated more than 4 garbage bags of clothing to salvation army because I'm a 14 now.. but started as a 24. I've still got a couple size 18 things in my closet... because I bought them brand new this year/they were gifts... its like I never got a chance to really wear em.
Subject close to my heart. I've been holding on to all my big clothes for fear I might need them again. In the end I gave them all to a good friend. All of them. I feel purged, and recommitted to my goals. Now I can't slip up and gain weight. I've gained and lost before and always hated buying in a bigger size, so I kept my clothes "just in case". But it was going to the store and needing size 24 that woke me up and made me realize that for years I was just opening another box in the closet and switching to the next size up collection. Like switching from winter clothes to summer clothes. Maybe if I had ditched the big clothes the first time I would have realized I was on a slippery slope when I had to buy 16's. I say commit, ditch them all!!
I either luckily or unluckily have been able to give most of the clothes that i cant wear anymore to my sisters. I will get rid of something as soon as I have a collection of stuff I cant wear anymore just to ensure I am actually out of that size. I have a sorta weird body type, Tall and hourglass-ish so giving my clothes to someone else would be really hard but I would be more than happy too eeeee!
I also say commit to never be the way you were before, or else why would you be on the journey your on? I have made a commitment to myself that as I take care of myself to purge the things in my life that are toxic to me.
I have to admit I haven't rid myself of a single stich of clothing! I am actually fitting into somethings that I haven't worn in a few years, and the I still wear the bigger stuff too. I just don't really have the money to replace all my stuff now. I've lost 38lbs, so there should be some differences now!
I'll probably donate mine to Goodwill. I haven't reached that point yet, yes my clothes are a little loose now, but not so bad that I can't wear them now. I have gone down 1 size, thats it. I would give them to friends or family, but I don't know anyone who wears a size 24.
I got rid of them as soon as I was able to buy smaller sizes. I don't believe in keeping the old, large ones "just in case",that would mean that I plan to regain my weight.
I give my old scrubs (work clothes) to my co-worker. It feels real good to get rid of them. I will give my other clothes to her too.... i just have to clean out my closet. I will keep a few items to take those cool big pants pictures later on but, like the others have said....keeping them "just in case" would be like saying " I might gain my weight back" and that way of thinking is very detrimental! Plus.... I just dont have enouph room in my closet and dresser to keep the old and the new clothes.
I haven't gotten to that point yet... but I do intend to donate them to the GoodWill when I lose more weight and am drowning in my clothes (and save 1 pair of pants as a reminder)... luckily I have every size of pants from 12-24 so I won't need to run out and go shopping as I lose weight.
I got rid of them soon after they were too big and I had replaced them. (Usually every 4 - 6 months.) I offered mine on freecycle. I kept one shirt and one pair of pants for comparison. I have struggled with keeping the weight off this fall and one of the motivating factors in keeping it off is that I have nothing to wear if I don't keep my weight down!
