In Flander's Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

— Lt.-Col. John McCrae

Lest We Forget
In memory of my grandfather William Utech who fought in WW2 on Japan and suffered more than a year as a POW in inhumane conditions.

My German immigrant grandfathers both fought in the Great War on the American side. It was so important to them both, they proved they were real Americans. 11-11-11 is real important to me, and I thanked the vets in my office today.
My father and father-in-law both were stateside during World War II, but my mother's first cousin was killed on his way home from 4 years in the European theater.

My husband did two tours of duty as a Navy medic in Vietnam. I thanked him today too.

God bless them all.
