Default Healthy Sick/Comfort Foods

Hey all... two of my children and myself are sick today. They have colds/coughs/runny nose, and I have waves of nausea, headache, body aches. I want to make something relatively easy for dinner that will be nourishing, easy to digest, and healthy. Of course there is chicken soup but I just made that the other day and my son had a can of chicken soup for lunch. Other ideas?? What's your favorite food when you're sick?

Maybe sandwiches would be good? I am thinking of turkey sandwiches. If one of your children is experiencing nausea then perhaps just Seven-up and crackers until the bug passes. I know you have been eating a lot of chicken soup, but chicken and rice soup sits well. Vegetable beef soup is also good.

I hope you and your children get to feeling better very soon!

Sugar free jello. Of course it's not the healthiest thing, but it's comforting and easy on the tummy. I do the chicken noodle soup and crackers mostly.

Pudding of any sort is what I go for, or jello.. I gotta admit some watermelon would be SO nice right now too! Hope you all feel better soon - nothing worse than being sick!

I like tomato soup as well - lots of vitamin C there to help clear things up.

Scrambled eggs are easy to digest, easy and quick to make, and yummy. My mom used to make scrambled eggs on toast when we were kids and recovering from a cold.

I also like oatmeal when I'm sick. Something about the warm, smoothness of it just soothes me.

And I have to admit a huge weakness of mine is Campbell's vegetable beef soup out of a can. I get the "healthy choice" version now to cut back on the sodium, but it's one of those comfort foods that makes me feel better - especially with a handful of Premium saltines.

Sorry you guys are feeling under the weather

Other than soups, I like toast with just a tiny bit of margarine & jam when I'm feeling sick. Applesauce, too.

Feel better soon!

Yes Sandi, I think we are all on the mend! I feel a lot better. Son stayed home form school but getting better, and daughter is not getting worse, so that's good. We ended up with vegetable soup, oatmeal, and mac n cheese from a box (for them, not me!) It all went down easy.

Oh and for lunch I had cream of wheat cooked with milk and it tasted like heaven!!

I'm glad to hear you and kids are starting to feel better! Food is a tough one when we are sick - I have to admit I stick to mostly processed foods, like canned soups, jello and puddings. Make sure you all keep drinking lots of water - you wanna flush that sickness out ASAP! Feel better!
