When did your weight loss start to slow down?

I know it's common for people to lose a lot of weight in the beginning and then have it slow down. I'm still losing at about the same speed as when I first started. It's been 4 months so far and I've lost 59 pounds, which averages at 3.3 pounds per week. I haven't hit a plateau yet lasting more than a couple days.

I know it's recommended that you only lose 1-2 pounds a week, but I'm not doing anything crazy or drastic. I eat between 1200 and 2000 calories a day (it averages to about 1500/day at the end of the week) and I exercise 6-9 hours each week. I've fixed the troubled relationship that I had with food and I know that this is a lifestyle change and I'm never going to go back to my old eating habits.

I still have 41 pounds to go. Should I expect it to slow down anytime? If I continue this rate I will have lost 100 pounds total by Christmas day, which would be fantastic, but is that a realistic goal?

It's so hard to say. I lost around 80 pounds, and then hit a horrific plateau - months on end. Couldn't shake it, so I gained about 30 pounds back. Then I started losing again, and it was fairly steady albeit slow, until the last month or so. This month no loss, but I only have 10 pounds to go now, and expect it will take a while.

You may never experience a plateau at all. Some people don't and just cruise on down to goal. I wouldn't worry about it until it actually starts to happen. Even if you don't make it to goal by Xmas - you are still doing awesome!

In my experience I did not slow down until I would say my last 15lb to 20lbs. I did have weeks where I did not lose through my weight loss journey but then lose 4lb the next week but that has been my pattern all the way through my weight loss journey. All our bodies are unique and lose in their own way no one person is the same.

Good luck with your weight loss and reaching your goals along the way.

It is definitely different for everyone. My weight loss has been like this:
30 lbs in the first three months
15 lbs in the next three months
7 in the next three months
6 in the next three months
2 in the next three months
10 lbs in the next three months
So yeah, it definitely slowed. It's picked up again, and I could probably speed it up some by making some changes, but I'm pretty happy with things right now.

I am ready to scream from the highest mountain !!! I lost 8 pounds in the first 5 weeks and now I have been on a plateau since !!! I am exercising, eating well, drinking water and NOTHING !! But, I am not gaining. So I know how frustrated you are. I was so happy initially, the weight was moving on down and now it is so discouraging. I will continue...................

It sounds like what your doing is working for you. Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones that doesn't hit a plateau. What a wonderful Christmas gift to have lost 100 lbs would be. I can dream...next year though!

It's amazing to me the things people will worry about... ;)

If your calorie counts are accurate, I'd say thank your lucky stars and keep doing what you're doing. :cheer3:

As you get closer to your goal, weight loss may slow. But you have some room to adjust if that happens.

this is where I'm at. I'm headed in the right direction but much slower. I like having the practice at not gaining all the weight back.

I lost 60ish lbs and then stalled hard. I hung in the 180s/170s for a long time.

Then I moved into the 160s and have hung there for a long time.

I figure that it's going to take me 5-6 more months to lose this last 30 lbs. If it goes faster, yay. If it doesn't, I'm prepared for that. :)

My weight loss has come to a complete standstill. I started sixteen months ago and have had other plateau's, but this is a stubborn one! At least it's reassuring to know it's normal the closer you get to goal.

Hopefully this won't happen to you!

Katmicken,

You are really revving up your metabolism both by the exercise and by not doing starvation (which is great) and you didn't mention your age...the younger you are the faster your metabolism works naturally.

Enjoy it...wouldn't it be wonderful if you never slowed down or hit a plateau? And just think...the Olympics athletes eat about 9000 calories a day. If your metabolism stays this active, when you hit goal you will need to seriously increase your eating to maintain...now that's a problem I would like to have!

Hi--

I lost 60lbs in the first 4-5 months but then I have since slowed down. I was losing 3.8 per week and now am between 1-2 lbs per week -- I have increased my exercise recently so that I can be toned and not have saggy skin but I don't know if that would account for the slow weight loss. I have stayed on the same plan?

If you find a solution please post it!

I lost 20 lbs by just eating right and now I can't get any further. Must be time to start exercising! hehe

Is it okay to be jealous?

(congratulations!)
