Have you considered moving to a sunnier climate? I wouldn't suggest it, except you shouldn't be stuck in a place where life isn't worth living for half the year. That sounds miserable.
Personally, I hate being cold (really, really hate it), which is why I ended up in Florida. There are a lot of things I miss about NY, but until they do something about that pesky weather problem they have in the winter, I'm not going back.
If life really isn't worth living during the winters, there are other options that to just suffer through it.
