Weight Loss Challenge, Fiber Mishap and question about inches
Tonight was the final weigh in of the weight loss challenge I have been attending for the last 12 weeks. My fiance did WONDERFUL! We're pretty sure he won the challenge. He lost a total of 33 pounds (302 down to 269) and that is roughly 10.9% and they award the winner based on percentage of body weight lost. The last two winners only lost about 7 to 8 percent!
I came in at 281. Thats 15 pounds over the 12 weeks. Not bad, I guess, but I was kind of hoping for more, I guess. I'm at about 5.1%. They also had a mini challenge to see who could lose the most inches. The amount of inches I lost amazed me for how few pounds I lost.
SC = Start Challenge
EC = End Challenge
Chest - SC: 51.25 -- EC: 47.75 -- (3.5 down)
Waist - SC: 47.75 -- EC: 43.00 -- (4.75 down)
Hips - SC: 58.50 -- EC: 55.00 -- (3.5 down)
Thigh - SC: 31.50 -- EC: 27.75 -- (3.75 down)
Bicep - SC: 17.75 -- EC: 16.00 -- (1.75 down)
Total inches lost: 17.25
I lost more inches than pounds! My fiance lost 33 pounds and only lost 15.25 inches total!
What I would like to know is, which one is about a normal inch loss?
I can not wait for the next challenge. Our party is this upcoming week, and then we start a new one closer to home. Same rules apply, because it is done by the same people. Larry (fiance) hopes to get to about 240 with the next challenge, and I'm HOPING to get down to about 255... maybe even 250 if I'm good. But, I'm taking it 10 pounds at a time because that seems to be the easiest kind of goal for me.
Oh, another quick question... When losing weight... Say you start at 300 and you have 100 pounds to lose. Lets say you lose 20 pounds, but accidentally gain 5 back. Then you lose that 5 and another 10 or so pounds, and you're at 30 pounds gone. Do you say you have lost 30 pounds? Or do you count the 5 that you had to re-lose? So would you say that overall you lost 35 pounds? It kind of confuses me.
Oh, comical note about fiber - We purchased a new brand of fiber that is more concentrated than our old fiber. We prepare protein/fiber shakes in the mornings, and I premix the powders so I have to mix protein, slimfast, fiber and a joint compound. Well, I misread the label, it said the serving size was 1 TSP, but, I read it as 1 TBSP, and thus put about 3 times the amount of fiber we should have in our shakes into our shakes... I didn't realize it until about a week later and I mentioned it to Larry and he said "Dear lord! I thought I had some kind of intestinal virus! I was going to go to the doctor to see if I was going to live!"... Apparantly he just started taking another fiber supplement that week, as well, so he was getting anywhere between 40 to 60 grams of fiber in a day (he also eats the tablets and fiberone bars...) but due to my ill planned calculations, he was getting way too much! So, I think thats what boosted his loss to 7 pounds this week, vs. the 3 pounds a week he WAS doing...
Sorry Larry! (hey, I had to sleep next to you with your ill-at-ease bowels)
