We always read those calorie guidelines but the really interesting thing for me is to see real live people who are DOING it, and I am curious about how many calories you guys are eating to lose weight.

I am currently trying to stay between 14-1500 calories per day. I am not very active... sit a lot... but I do ride my exercise bike for 20-25 minutes 3-4x a week. I also strength train at home, just a little 20 minute routine, 3x a week. I am only losing about 1.25 pounds a week doing this.
  • I like this website for learning about calorie counting. Put in your info and click "calculate" and then "7 day calorie cycle" to learn how many calories you should be eating. Lots of good info to read too.

  • I eat 1200-1500 per day, 30-45 minutes on average cardio per day everyday and average, according to Fitday, 3.41 pounds per week since January.

I'm not very active either, bulk of day is spent at computer. Yuck.

I'll add that I'm 31, 244 pounds (I reallyreallyreally hate typing that), as I think you'll see a huge range of results to your questions and I think that makes a bit o' difference.

~Also wanted to add that while I consider myself a calorie counter, my diet is very very high protein, no white foods- carbs all come from veggies, some grains. I'm probably a low carber without realizing it- I've never researched low carb. For me it makes all the difference.
  • I eat around 1350 per day, with 2 days at 1500 or so.
I exercise every day, at least 45 minutes of cardio, and strength train 3x per week (full body).
At this calorie level, I lose about a pound a week. I have always been a slow loser, though.
  • I try to stay between 1500-1700 calories a day. I usually exercise 3 -5 times a week...but haven't been lately because I have a bad cough. On average, I lose 2.2 - 2.6lbs. a week.

The hard thing about those websites that tell you how many calories you should be eating is they all vary and I find none to be really accurate. Most of them say I should be eating 2,000 calories a day for EXTREME weight loss. I don't think SO!!
  • I eat around 1200-1400 calories a day, just depends on the day.
I exercise about 60-100 minutes a day with cardio.
I'm averaged at 5 pounds a week since January.
  • How many calories are you eating per day?
2200 4 days a week, 2600 3 days a week (within 25 cals either side is on plan)

How much activity/exercise do you do?
90 mins walking - 5 days a week (treadmill, slow speed with 5-10% incline)
30 mins strength training - 3 days a week (these are the days I eat 2600)
2 days - nada, nothing, zilch - until the weather is nicer, then work in the garden and some casual swimming

How much weight are you averaging losing per week?
A little over 2 pounds per week since December (2.33 according to FitDay... today, it varies)

It's a struggle to find the proper level to eat at. I've played around a bit, but this is working well for me. In the end though it's important to find food that you like, and exercise you enjoy. Without that, no matter what level you pick, you're going to have a rough time. You seem unhappy with your progress. Overall it looks great - you've lost 46 pounds. You don't need to lose a specific number of pounds a week to consider your weight loss a success. Sometimes I'd love to lose faster, but in the end I really only care that I get there. And besides, I've found a way of eating I could do forever. There's nothing I would change once I reach my goal. (Okay, I know somewhere along the way I'll have to lower the calories, but I'll try hard not to cut them too far.)

Except for the regular exercise listed above, I sit a lot as well. I'm really enjoying the strength training. I've found something I'd do even if I wasn't losing weight, and that's fun. In fact, I had to go buy more weights this week because, hey, I can lift more than I thought I could.
  • I'm eating 1500 calories each day. I exercise (treadmill and small weights) about 45 minutes a day five times a week.

I only lose about one pound per week. It does seem slow, but at least the scale is going in the right direction!

It has fat loss and extreme fat loss at the same calorie intake.
  • I am eating 1700-1800 cal a day and was losing about 1.25 pounds a week. I was walking 2 miles 2-3 days a week. Within the last 2 weeks I have increased my walks to 2.5-3 miles 3-4 days a week. No increased loss as a result of increased walking yet but I will give it a month and see.
  • My calorie limit is 1600, but I usually eat between 1300 and 1500.
I do 30 minutes of cardio every day, most days with 2 pound weights in my hands.
    I'm losing about 2 pounds a week.

Hubby is buying me a treadmill this weekend, I plan on putting an hour a day on it on top of my cardio videos. We'll see if that changes things. I know they say 1-2 pounds is good a week, but to me it is a very slow process.
  • where do you guys get your calorie amount from?
  • I'm at 1800, sometimes 1900 a day. I walk at least 45 minutes 3-4x a week, and do 15 minutes of pilates dvd 2x a week.

My weight loss varies greatly, but probably averages about 1.5 lbs. a week.

Either mydailyplate.com or fitday.com can give you a ballpark estimate of how many calories you need in a day.
I find both places to overestimate for what I need. I don't lose weight at their recommended rate, and I don't lose at the rate those sites think I should for the calories I take in. But it is a good place to start from.
  • In general about 1400-1800 most days... a few random higher and lower. I exercise 6 days a week between an hour and 2.5 hours (I'm training for a Tri)

I've lost about 2.5 on average most months. I've ate about the same calories the whole time but the exercise has just increased over time.
