What makes you NOT exercise?

I thought this would be a bit of fun, we all have those days when we just don't get up and do it, was wondering about others reasons for slacking off a day or more...

PNG 2 02-22-2002 01:38 PM

OK, I chose feeling over-exerted, because that's what my slack off days are usually. I have my share of the others, but they don't get me like overworking does... I tend to overdo it when I get on a good exercise roll, and go way beyond whats neccessary, so when I feel that "manic" phase coming on, I step back for a day or 2, to let my body recover

I chose a busy day because at the end of a busy day, I'm beat and just want to sit on the couch and be a bum

I said other because I could cite most of those reasons! Lately I've been busy or I have so much stuff I should do I can't get anything done!! When I was working 12 hour shifts I was too tired at the end of the day to even think of exercising. If I have an injury I tend to try and exercise through it, I don't remember if I posted that I had broken my baby toe. Well it is still sore but I am still walking. Not walking is not going to help it heal any faster. When my foot starts feeling a bit achy I just slow down my pace but still finish my walk.

Busy day

I choose busy day because I find those days to be the hardest ones to find a moment just for yourself. Between work, spouse, and kids my most hectic days are my hardest because I like to fool myself into thinking I deserve the day off from excercising. Working on that mentally by trying to consistantly view excercise as a reward, not a punishment.

I chose other as well because I have a health problem that has as one of its symptoms chronic fatigue. After I have taught 24 5th graders all day, I barely have enough energy to do housework and cook supper before grading papers, etc and going to bed. I then decided the smart thing to do would be to exercise in the morning when I do have more energy. Wrong again. After trying that I was "out of steam" by about 2 PM. Still had those 24 5th graders at that time.

My approach to exercise at this time is that I am trying to increase my activity level gradually through more activity in my daily routine. Example: Making the extra walk down the hall to the bathroom that is a little farther, and getting ready to do some yard work on the weekends. A slow approach, but working so far.

Teach: I also have a chronic fatigue problem, stemming from fibromyalgia, so I know what ya mean, some days, I just can't go, it's not a matter of don't wanna, it's a matter of feeling like I'll croak if I try... apparently I've had it for about 10 years now, and it was just diagnosed last spring... boy I got a few ex-docs I'd like to kick....

teach93 02-23-2002 03:36 PM

PNG: mine is a degenerative kidney disease. I have never had a kidney infection, bladder trouble, anything. Back in 1992 I had strep throat that hung on for 2 months. Everyone in my family was tested with no results. It suddenly disappeared and from what I know now, found a new home in both my kidneys. No cure, just treat the symptoms.

I know how you feel about kicking a few ex docs. My cousin has fibro and went through literal you know what before she finally got a diagnosis up at Mayo's. I know that for myself, just having a name for why I felt so bad made it seem a little better. Weird I guess.
