  • Hi, I have already lost 40 pounds but still at least 72 more to go. I love the idea of 100 club!. My only question is how do I know what my goal weight should be. I see that several people have set short term goals as well. Are they based on a 1 pound a week?

    Thanks

    Alicia
  • Hello,
I am new as well...just joined 3FC today.
  • Hi Alicia!!! And welcome to the 100 lb club area!

Short term goals are not always time based. Some are, and it depends on what the person feels they are able to lose in that amount of time. My short term goal is not time based. It's just a smaller number to look at other than my overall goal, which would be constantly overwhelming.

There are size charts which can give you a rough estimate for about what someone your height should weigh, but often a doctor knows best what is healthiest for you.

Definitely make use of the forums. Keep us all updated on how you're doing! And congrats on the weight you've lost so far. Simply fantastic!
  • Alicia! I chose a random number...150...as I have no idea what I will look like or feel like at a lower weight. I'll adjust my goal as I get closer. For short term goals, I like to aim for 2 pounds a week. I don't usually reach it, but any progress is great progress in my book!
  • AliciaD and clburchett! We love having new faces here! Feel free to jump right in!!! This is a very active and supportive group!
  • Hi Aliciad - my short term goal isn't a timed goal. I just have the goal set for exactly 100 pounds. That is only 18 pounds away, so seems short term to me LOL!

My goal weight is within the range typical for my height (104-136).
  • Hi there Alicia!!! and to the 100 lb club. Congratulations on the 40 lb loss. You must be feeling AWESOME!

As far as choosing a goal weight, you don't have to choose one at all. You can have an "idea" in mind and tweak it as you get closer. They're not written in stone. I chose my original goal weight and then changed it and then changed it again. I had been morbidly obese for so long, I hadn't a clue as to how I would look or more importantly feel, when I got to a particular weight. So keep an open mind. You'll know when you get there. And get there you will.
  • Hi, Everyone!
I am new to the forum. I posted my profile last week.
Thanks, Dali for welcoming me. I am really excited about sharing recipes and motivational ideas.

I have been reading a lot of postings to familiarize myself with the site and I just want to say how wonderful it is to see so many people being so supportive of one another. Please add me to the list of well wishers!
  • robin- wow you have lost 165 pounds !?! that is so awesome!
  • Y'all have found a great place!!!

As far as a goal weight my only goal is to get below 199. After that I'm going to just see where my body feels comfortable. I had always said 150 because it was on the higher end of the weight lists for my height but since I've been obese all my life even if I end up at an "overweight" weight I figure it's a lot better than the 300+ pounds I started at.
  • HI & welcome! It's a great crew here, sure to keep you motivated, pick you up when you're down, and happy to share in your joys & successes!

My goal is arbitrary, I know I felt amazing at about 220 but that's not very healthy at all LOL so i picked a lower number -- i'd MUCH rather be sane and happy at 180 than miserable and starving at 140.
  • Way to go on the 40 lb weight loss! That's an awesome start and you are on your way. Welcome!
  • Hi Alicia, clburchett and bbbssheila!

Welcome! Congratulations on your loss so far Alicia! Woo hoo!

My goal weight is based on what I used to weigh when I was a healthy weight - not my lowest weight - but a weight that my body was happy and healthy at for most of my adult life (and hopefully maintainable this time!) My weekly goal is 2lbs, but I think that any loss is a happy loss! Like I recently posted, I am working on not having an "all or nothing" mentality, and part of that for me is to be okay with "small losses" because this has to be a way of life for me now - not a "diet".
  • Thanks for the support and the great ideas. I too just picked 150 pounds, but it was just a wild guess. At this point, I too would like to be "less than 200".

  • You have already been given some great advice...I just stopped in to say hi to the both of you...and !
