Thanks, EVERYONE, for replying & giving me some food for thought.

What you've all said makes sense & gives me some hope that I can actually do this, get started & make some changes - slow but sure! Slow is better than never, right?!?

I think I'm going to come up with a few easy ways to get started, like today I decided I'm always going to take the stairs at work - today I walked up & down 9 flights of stairs. I also only had 1 piece of pizza at lunch, when I normally would have had two. This was not overwhelming and may not make a big difference on the scale tomorrow, but it is something I can do & keep doing. Over time I'll try adding other small steps & see how they feel. I like the idea of making a small change & doing it for 21 days (to get in the habit) then adding another.

This may actually work. I have hope now. Thanks, everyone!! :D

Roo

I'm going to spend some time reading all the other threads & get to know you all better - that should keep me busy & away from the kitchen in the evenings! ;)

hi again Roo -- Way to go on those stairs! Keep going!

the boards are great, and some days its all I can do from tearing myself away... I've forgotten about eating my snacks (I'm on South Beach which recommends having a mid-morning and mid-afternoon "healthy" snack to stave off hunger pangs)! Sometimes, I've even started dinner late!

Enjoy and please, let us know how you're doing.

To Success in the Quest!

best,
b

Hi there. Glad that you have decided to start posting again and are ready to make some changes.

I do hear you about the work involved to lose the weight. Yes it IS work, the shopping, the planning, the chopping, cooking, preparing and always having good healthy foods on hand. The avoiding temptation and just saying NO. And then of course there's the exercise. But without a doubt it is thee most worthwhile "work" you can do. You will not regret it for one single second. You will never look back and think, "Gosh, why in the world did I lose this weight, it was the worst thing I could have done." NEVER. It is the absolute BEST thing you can do. THE BEST. I always knew it would be wonderful to be thin and at a healthy weight, but I had no clue it would be THIS marvelous.

So although it's work at times, and it does get easier, it comes without a doubt the biggest, most rewarding, gratifying INCREDIBLE payoff in the world. And there is absolutely no reason on earth why you can't do it. Because it IS doable and you too can do it. :)

Welcome back, Roo!

Yes, losing a lot of weight can be overwhelming, but it is do-able. If you haven't done so already, I recommend you go to the Goal thread and read those posts. Women just like you and me have been successful and we can do this, too! What is your plan? That is one of the biggest predictors of success on this journey....plan, plan plan. Pick a plan and go for it. You can always mix things up a bit further down the road, but you need someplace to start, right? And, as you start to lose weight and feel better, your confidence in yourself and your ability to do this will naturally get stronger and stronger. You can do this!
