Default Shakes

Good afternoon! Well I finished exercising about 40 minutes ago, and then I ate lunch, and I have terrible shakes in my hands. I have a little bit of nausea too. Does this happen to anyone? It's never happened before. Sometimes after a work out I would feel weak, and tired but not like this. I'm drinking water. For breakfast I had oatmeal with a 8oz of orange juice. I had an orange for snack. For lunch I had two pieces of cheese on whole wheat bread with two low fat fig newtons. Is this normal??

I've gotten that why before (even not after working out) if I haven't eaten in awhile. I think my blood sugar gets to low. When I work out during my lunch break at work I make sure to have a bigger morning snack to give me enough fuel to work out and make it until lunch. I try to get something with some protein like almonds or peanut butter. One thing that fills me up pretty well is a banana with a tbsp of natural peanut butter. To me it sounds like maybe you need a little more to eat at lunch (especially after a work out). Maybe add some veggies like baby carrots and a fruit. Or have something with more protein then cheese like lunch meat or peanut butter. These are just ideas.
I would talk to a doctor if it keeps happening or gets worse. Better to be safe.

I agree with the above posters... sounds like it *could* be that you're not eating enough before/after a workout and your blood sugar could be dropping too low. Are you eating too few calories for your body? Your body gets unhappy when you do that and it can result in anything from a headache to fatigue to who-knows-what.

Also, what kind of exercising are you doing? If you're lifting weights (and heavy!), then I've read about some people becoming ill during/after that. I've also read about runners getting sick if they're running a longer distance or faster than usual, but I have pretty much no experience in that department so I can't help you there. Personally, I get heartburn, either from lifting or the protein shake afterwards (not sure which since they go hand in hand! Haha), so I take a couple of tums to try and prevent that.

How long had it been between your morning snack and your workout? If it had been a while so that your tummy was relatively empty, then maybe eat a larger morning snack or eat it closer to workout time, perhaps with some whole grains and protein, so that it will stick with you longer.

And, when in doubt, go and see your doc! There could be some underlying health problem here. It's always better safe than sorry.
